Quinnen Williams: It's not really fair that linemen are never in the Heisman conversation

Alabama’s breakout star on the defensive line received momentary chatter about receiving votes for college football’s top individual prize. Williams leaned back in his chair with a big smile when asked Wednesday in Atlanta if he thought he should be up for the Heisman.

“I feel like I should have been up there but it’s cool,” Williams said with a grin. “It’s fun, man. I look up to Ndamukong Suh and I remember Ndamukong Suh went to the Heisman so I was like ‘Man, it would be cool to go to the Heisman like Ndamukong Suh.'”

All three finalists invited to New York for the Heisman are quarterbacks including Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

“Yeah, it’s too much of a quarterback award,” Williams said, still smiling. “It’s too much of an award, like the Heisman Award only goes to a person that touches the ball. Like if I get a whole bunch of sacks, I’m not getting the Heisman Award. I feel like whoever touches the ball the most is the Heisman winner and I feel like that’s not really fair, for real.

Ndamukong Suh should’ve won it over Mark Ingram that one year. Suh was an absolute monster in college that year.

He's right. Why aren't linemen recognized for what they do as much as quarterbacks?

Suh should have won. He was incredibly dominant that year, and Ingram was just the best player on the best team.

I agree and think its lame af. Especially when these heisman QBs bust and are system guys, and you have sure fire future all pros at other positions dominating in college.

Yards and TDs are flashy. Plus with the way the sport is designed, the RBs and QBs can impact a game quite a bit more.

Suh should have won in 09 and Tyrann Mathieu should have won in 2011.

If I replaced Alabama's best lineman with an average lineman and played through the season and compared that to if you replaced Tua with an average college quarterback and played through the season, which change would hurt the team more?

There's your answer.

Bama would still be the favorite with Hurts at QB. I think a lot of QBs in college football would have Bama undefeated right now.

Not sure I'd use that word to assess the situation but its completely effed up the Heisman more rewards either the best offensive player on the best team that isn't a wide receiver or a record-breaking season by a talented running back/quarterback than offensive/defensive players regardless of specific position based on pure merit, same applies with the NFL MVP award aint no defensive player been awarded it since the great LT back in '86 and only 2 defensive players have EVER won the award, so much offense bias and shite

Suh could have won it, Orlando Pace could have won it. Steve Emtman could have won it.

But since the Heisman is a defacto QB/RB award that wasn't going to happen.

Calvin Johnson could have won it.

But the voters say...man you guys have your own awards.

Funny how QBs - Davey O'Brien and RBs - Doak Walker all have their own awards.

The only receivers to win the Heisman had to do other shite on the field...like field Kick-offs and punts and score spectacular TDs that way.

Tim Brown and Desmond Howard.

Derrick Thomas followed up an 18 sack season with a 27 sack season. That got him a 10th place finish for the Heisman

Most underrated college or NFL player of all time and I'm not sure it's close.

Ingram shouldve been 3rd. Toby Gerhart had a better claim too.

1871 yards 28 TD vs 1658 yards and 17 TD (with 1 more game too)

Defensive rookie of the year
9 pro bowls in 11 seasons
126.5 sacks(only 32 players have ever reached 100)
Single game sack record holder(until 2017)
Chiefs all time sack leader
Chiefs all time safety leader
Chiefs all time forced fumble leader
Chiefs all time fumble recovery leader
Chiefs 7th leading tackler all time

Took him 5 tries to make the NFL HoF

His college stats are even more insane and he is still the all time single season sack leader with 27 and totaled 52 in his 3 year career.

Took him until 2014 to be inducted into the CFB HoF.

SOMEBODY underrated him, you dolt.

True story. The only defensive player up for the Walter Camp this year was UK's Josh Allen and that's just because he had an insane year (14 sacks, 18.5 tackles for a loss, etc). All the rest were QBs.

Problem is, NCAA did not recognize sacks as official stats until 2000. Terrell Suggs is considered the record holder in both categories.

Yet Conferences started to chart them in the 80s like the NFL, which is why DT owns some SEC records.

It's silly because the proof was put on the field, but it was held against him. Don't think it was a coincidence he got in the CBHOF after they moved it to Atlanta.

Everything said in this thread is true.....which is why to this day it’s unbelievable that Charles Woodson won it over Peyton Manning.
