Thought it would be more than that. They've given up a 3-goal period in like 8 out of the last 10 or 11 games or some crazy number like that,

I had to go look up the stat just now. I worded it incorrectly in the previous post, but it is still bad: In the last 10 games, they've given up 3+ goals in a single period in 5 of those 10 games.
But in 3 of those 5 games that it happened, the opponent did it to them twice - Coyotes (won 6-3), Bruins (won 7-3) & Jets (won 6-3) all scored 3 goals in two of the three periods.
So in 8 out of the last 30 regulation periods the Stars have played, they have given up 3+ goals in the period.

I think the Penguins virtually wrapped up a playoff bid last night. This was a real under-the-radar huge night for them. they entered the night 3 points up on the flyers with 0 games in hand, playing the playoff bound Rangers while the Flyers got the halpess Oilers. It very well could have been a 1-point margin in the standings by the end of the evening.
Instead, the Pens beat the Rangers, and the Flyers got obliterated by the Oilers. Now the Pens have a 5-point cushion with 19 to play. If the Pens play 500 from this point on, getting just a point a game, the Flyers now need to go 12-7-0 to tie them. Given the Pens huge lead in ROW, likely the Flyers have to go 12-6-1 to catach the Pens IF the Pens play at a point per game pace, which stinks. This was a huge night for them. The race might be over, barring a total collapse.

Absolutely brutal OT loss for the Preds last night to New Jersey. Pekka took a horrendous delay of game penalty in OT that led to the GW for the Devils.
I've figured out that I am a jinx to this team without my wife. Been to 5 games this year. 2 w/ the wifey and we won 5-3 and 6-2. The 3 games I went without her we lost all of them in OT.

NJ ain't that good.

Which is why they had to play with a purpose. Cant continue giving away games to sub par teams if they wanna keep up with Chicago & not get jumped by the Blues in the standings.

Preds blow past the Avs in the 3rd to keep rolling.
Only 5 points back of St Louis with a very manageable next 5 games.

You see the Stars upcoming schedule? Ouch.
Away games in Canada (Sens & Habs) then in a row:
Hawks
Blues
Kings
Lightning
Only positive is that all of those games are at home. Tough stretch

Caps are winning the Cup this year. Nothing can stop them.

I appreciate the jinxing attempt.
But let's also be honest: as good as the record is, there are some obvious weaknesses to the Caps this year. Any could prove their undoing.
ONE. This team starts slow. Like, a lot. The Caps have made a habit of giving up the first goal. 11 times in the last 13 games, to be exact. That's a bad habit to be in.
TWO. They pass too much. It's an odd complaint, but the Caps have a real problem with refusing to shoot (except Ovi). If there's a problem of being TOO unselfish, it is this team.
THREE. The Caps only rank 11h in 5v5 Scoring Adj. Corsi. That's not good for a team with such a gaudy record. Part of that is driven by the Caps high PDO, which is the measurement of luck. the Caps have had an unsustainable shooting percentage (see passing too much above)
FOUR. Pressure. While history doesn't suit up, it's undeniable the Caps have an awful playoff history. And if this team gets in a tight series, how much do they start thinking about it and tightening up?
FIVE. One goal games. The Caps just set a record for playing in 10 consecutive 1-goal games, none of which went to shootout. Great teams blow you out, the Caps let you hang around.
