I mean how the hell did Memphis land a player like Derrek Rose?
Coach Cal. He's clean as the new fallen snow, though. Right, Kentucky fans?
He didn't even help Rose cheat on his ACT's.

They are all dirty.
Forde, Tipton, and others have been digging deep since he has been at Kentucky. Cal's must hide is tracks real good.

I don't think Pastner was dirty. And Tubby isn't. Perhaps that's why they didn't/can't win and Tubby can't get players? Tubby won at Kentucky, but wasn't it with Pitino's players?
In all honesty, not sure how dirty Cal is. He's a good basketball coach. And he has good runners. Or at least he did when at Memphis. They are the ones doing the dirty work, IMO. And there isn't an interview with him I wouldn't stop and watch. He's just flat out interesting to listen to.

Correct
And I am not in denial that Cal has pushed in the gray area. My point is, the NCAA and reporters have been digging since he walked to Lexington. They have not found anything. Until then, I am enjoying the ride.
ETA: I don't think Cal and his assistants are that desperate to go to Vegas at the last minute to get a borderline 5 star to commit at the last minute and be on a FBI wiretap making the deal. It amazes me Louisville was so rouge and stupid going after a player like that. And I am certain the assistants would take chump change from a money manager to steer a player to them. $15,000 is chump change to them considering they are getting paid more then the majority of head coaches in the SEC.

Under Calipari, UMASS won a final four and had to vacate it.
Under Calipari, Memphis had to vacate 38 wins with Rose.
Now I would love Cal to be at LSU but it should come as a surprise to nobody if assistants were paying players under him.

Your good to go then, the FBI has nothing on those guys.

I don’t think this presser is sports related. Bummer
Former State Rep. Oliver Robinson pleaded guilty in early September to 7 counts of corruption related to his work to discourage north Birmingham residents from supporting an expansion of the EPA Superfund site there. Robinson admitted to federal prosecutors he accepted bribes from Drummond Coal to oppose the superfund site expansion.

I was just reading that because coaches are working for publicly funded universities, them taking money makes it an FBI thing even before all the other stuff.
Still not sure it's the best use of FBI time, but it's interesting.
I was under the impression this all started with an SEC investigation into Marty Blazer, a financial advisor from Pittsburgh. As part of his plea, he agreed to turn the tables on these schools and Adidas, and it basically fell into the FBI's lap. They weren't actively looking to police college athletics, but considering the money involved, it's probably a worthwhile endeavor on their part.

This was confusing the hell out of me until I realized you were talking about the Securities and Exchange Commission and not the Southeastern Conference.
Usually those two don't cross over.

quote:Wait. Are you arguing that they didn't do this because they wouldn't want to be on a secret wiretap? If so, then they would have to know of the wiretap, which defeats the purpose of it, and nobody would have made a deal if they knew there was a wiretap.

So is there another press conference today about the NCAA? The Birmingham thing has nothing to do with college basketball.

I'm low key hoping johnny Jones or someone no longer invlolved with the program was involved in this so maybe just maybe aliva can get taken down in the cross fire
If they're involved in this and still couldn't win, that's pretty pathetic.

Exaggerated a bit, but they are getting paid. LINK
A bit? None of them make make more than a single SEC head basketball coach.
The thing you fail to realize is that those cushy jobs are only available if you're getting top flight talent. The $15k bribe may be chump change, but getting 5 McDonald's All Americans is how you keep that job, and that isn't easy unless you're playing the game.
Think about this for a minute - Emmanuel Mudiay got paid $1.2MM to play in China for one year rather than go to college, and we're supposed to believe other top players are going to Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. just for the prestige?

Years later, we found out that one of the reasons why Nolan was in a good financial position (besides his dad's insurance policy from the tragic heart attack) was because his step dad was one of the top heroin dealers in DC.
So that's a long way of saying Frank Martin is super dirty.
