Tate has been a bigger surprise than Orgeron somehow winning a national title. Dude has been killing it.
100%. All of the nonsense over his hire because of the fear he would add a couple of CRT courses to the curriculum. Something that none of the haters would even notice unless it was announced on the poli board.

The WNBA won't be long-term successful until it gets out from under the NBA.

I get the money... and 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago, I would agree with you.

The league should play, during the actual basketball season, and in cities that are smaller. They don't need to be playing in 16K NBA arenas. Put them in smaller towns - places where they could be the big name in town.

The NBA subsidizes it... but most of that subsidy goes to overhead that is not really needed.

They need to follow a version of the MLS model. It's taken, what, almost 30 years, but the MLS is a nice little league now. No, it won't challenge the big four leagues... but it is a good successful league.

NBA and MLB could actually cut a few teams because the way the leagues are set up - some teams and markets have no chance to compete
MLB has proven over and over again that you don’t need a large payroll or large market area to be competitive.

What does it really matter? The league subsidizes it with a monetary amount that's probably about as much as Doug McDermott's salary so it's a drop in the bucket financially.

NBA is literally the only thing keeping the WNBA afloat. If Silver came out right now and said the funding was over the entire league would be under water by the weekend

I just can't see them surviving without it.

I just don't think soccer and women's hoops are analogous. Yes they are both sports but so different and pulling from different demographics, etc, etc., so I don't see the same model working the same way for women's pro hoops as it did for MLS.
