What sports fan doesn't know the NFL is kicking off tonight? It's not even a delayed start. This date has been known for a while
There's obviously people that are aware there's football tonight and are actively boycotting.
But there's also people who would otherwise watch that just aren't aware.
With the way this year has gone everything is just different and the timing of everything just seems off. Delayed or not.

Yeah it just feels off. The delay of MLB and hiatus in the NBA threw off the whole year. We're usually in a time where a late season pennant race was the only sports we had until football. It's messed up the whole yearly routine of sports so the start of the NFL season just gets lost.

I have no idea, I would assume down. I’m on the fence about watching, haven’t watched a single second of sports since March and don’t miss it at all, I do really enjoy the nfl bc of fantasy and betting though.

My question is, if it’s like 8-9 million which would be a significant decrease, do they pivot for week 2 and stop all the racial bs?

Think it would depend what the advertisers do

None of them can come out and oppose the Marxist group so I guess that’s our answer

I’m not really sure how ratings ties to the NFL making money as much
One would think, the more people watch the more advertisers coming knocking on their door to have commercials (see the Super Bowls price for commercials)

But I feel like Nike, Coke, Apple etc really aren’t going to start pulling ads from the NFL

Agreed.

Might be some kind of cost for the ads tied to the ratings number though, I would think the owners in the nfl who are least beholden to the current players of any sport would pivot quickly if it’s costing them money.

The nba has shown it lets a bunch of petulant coddled middle school educated ego maniacs completely control its fortunes.

I say they get a high of 16.2, but continuous viewing in 12.1.

I really don’t know how it works for the NFL because there’s no RSNs

Like for baseball and basketball, nationally the ratings may be shite
But if their RSNs are doing well it doesn’t matter
For example: nba games on ESPN suck but if they’re showing the same playoff games on the Lakers channel (and it does well) it doesn’t matter

Unfortunately, I think it's going to be higher because the number of dopey super fans who don't pay attention to current events far outweighs the people who actually pay attention to what's going on. For example, have you seen the average "who dat?"

I'll watch it muted so I don't hear the bullshite political commentary when I should be getting PBP.

There’s going to be a lot and the political shite won’t hurt it.

I think it will be lower but for other reasons mentioned like the sports bars etc.

Watching college football last week was absolutely cathartic and people who actually meaningfully follow the NFL probably need this in their lives right now.

It’ll be even higher next week as people break down and watch anyway.

Its not hard to look at the ratings

Their day programming has been in the 150-170th most watch shows on cable.

There are dozens of shows and channels I have literally never heard of on top of the ones I have killing ESPN in same time block ratings.

Wouldnt lack of sports bars help numbers?

Instead of 100 people drawing only 4 tvs, those become close to 100 tvs?

I'm going to say 20.3

I know there are people on here talking about boycotting, but let's be honest- most of us are sports fans, we're STARVED for some real football, and there ain't much else on. No movies at the theaters, bars are closed, restaurants are still limited... there just ain't a lot else to do.

I'll be watching. Might have it muted at times , but I'm going to be watching, for sure.

Maybe, maybe there’s a lot of people who wouldn’t be watching anyway. I dunno
