All on the roster prior to the hiring of Spags, then why was Steve the coaching hire and not a 3-4 coordinator?
A lot of these guys were not used much last season, for whatever reason (Hicks, Wilson and Galette especially). When on the field, they actually produced. Hawthorne was injured pretty much all season. It's been said that Spags was hard to play for, and made things more complicated than they should've been.
I was optimistic about Spags, but in reality the team just did not have good pass rushers from the DE spot that his system relies on. It was a bad hire, and he was thrown into a extremely tough situation with the bounty chaos. The Saints are better fit for just sending wild blitzes and gambling. They will rank in the bottom half in yards allowed, but they will likely cause a lot more turnovers. That really goes a long way, giving Brees and Payton the ball back. I just think it will look a lot more like the defense from 09-11, because Ryan runs a similar system to Williams.

His original premise is flawed regardless because he already saw NO and ATL earn #1 seeds with bottom 10 defenses. Similarly, Green Bay earned the #1 seed with the worst defense in the league and no running game. So to say that he can't see it is an example of his willful ignorance.

Jaguars 52
Saints 0
Brett Favre comes out of retirement and leads a ragtag Jaguars team to the promised land.

You remember when Jax sent Marino out with that?

I'm not trying to be "edgy" or trying to start some crazy Falcons vs Saints bashfest. I am simply stating that I do not believe that the current state of either team will result in a #1 or #2 seed. I do believe that they will both make the playoffs. Just not as a 1 or 2 seed.

You said that it would not be possible for them to earn a #1 or #2 seed with their defenses. I pointed out that they have accomplished that in recent season with bottom ten defenses, so why not now? I also pointed out that Green Bay did the same with the worst defense in the league.
So why, again, do you think it's impossible?

To this day, this is why I hate the Jaguars as much as anyone. I'm elated that they are mired in the suck.

BTW, I don't see either as a #1 or #2 seed.
Why? The schedules. The NFC South and NFC West have tough schedules this year because both divisions are strong (on paper) this year and they play each other.
The winner of each will be a 10-11 win team, which will probably be #3 & #4.

Because it seems like both teams are stuck running on the treadmill. Both teams have lost pieces, and both teams have filled those spots with equal or lesser players. Other NFC teams have become significantaly better (San Francisco, Seattle). Also the scheduling favors teams like Green Bay who were already good last year, over both the Saints and Falcons. I think San Francisco and Green Bay will earn the 1 and 2 seeds out of the NFC.. Here are my predictions:
NFC:
1. San Francisco
2. Green Bay Packers
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Washington Redskins
5. Atlanta Falcons
6. Seattle Seahawks
AFC:
1. Houston Texans
2. New England Patriots
3. Denver Broncos
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
5. Cincinnati Bengals
6. Indianapolis Colts

I disagree with SF and Seattle getting significantly better, but I agree re: GB and their schedule. I'd even say that the NFC East champ might sneak into #2 because of what I said above.

I can deal with this..........

I think Seattle got insanely better. They added some solid players to an already stout defense. Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett were brought in, along with Antoine Winfield.
Offensively, they were poised to have a "breakout" year with the addition of Percy Harvin. Russel Wilson will have to avoid the Sophomore slump, but I believe having Marshawn Lynch in the backfield is going to help him avoid it for the most part.
49ers got help at WR with Anquan Boldin, they signed Asomugha, drafted Eric Reid and Tank Carradine. If Frank Gore goes down, they can slip in Marcus Lattimore. I think the 49ers and Seahawks are two VERY good teams. They are the two teams that scare me the most.

I don't think he will miss the entire season, but he won't be available at the very least until mid season. So they will have to rely on Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James to pick up the slack. Even with that though, I still think they got better.
