Any prediction that has either Atlanta or New Orleans as a #1 or #2 seed I cannot take seriously. Neither team has a damn defense worth shite

Both the Saints and Falcons parlayed bottom ten defenses to #1 seeds in recent years. When the Saints had a top 10 defense they were a wild card team...

Nah, he's played well in the cold before. He couldn't even throw a 10 yard out in the playoffs last season. He clearly wasn't right

The Saints nor the Falcons will come anywhere close to being top 10 in defense. I see both teams finishing in the bottom 15 again this year.

I specifically was talking about his outdoor performances in NE against the Patriots...until last year he never had a good game outdoors vs NE

He got worse as the game progressed and it got colder. He was fine early on, but by OT it was obvious that he couldn't throw the ball further than about 10 yards

You conveniently ignore what their defensive rankings were when they were #1 seeds...

New Orleans has done absolutely nothing to upgrade their defense this year.

My TLDR of the day.

Just switching to a 3-4 helps. They didn't have the personnel for the Spags 4-3, because that relied on having good pass rush with the front. Jordan played well, but is more suited for the 3-4. Hicks should excel in there as well, he has all the tools. Coleman is another guy who can do some damage at DE, Ryan loves the guy as well. For NT they have Bunkley, who played NT well in Denver, and they have the experiment of Jenkins out of Georgia, who has apparently lost a little weight.

In the secondary they drafted a do it all guy in Vaccaro. Saying he won't be worth a shite is stupid, especially since we haven't even watched him play. I've heard nothing but good things about the guy in camp. They also brought in Lewis who led the NFL in passes deflected last season. Harper can't cover, no denying that, but he is a good blitzer, and useful as a rover. I'd imagine he'll be used that way. Jenkins can rotate in at nickel (where I think he is best suited) and play safety. Greer is solid, and has been for years. Robinson and White are both guys who could come on strong this year. Overall, the secondary could be a lot worse.

For ILB, I like what's there. Lofton, Hawthorne and Vilma are all capable starters, and could make up a nice rotation. UDFA Reddick could also be nice in there. OLB is the biggest question mark. Yes, I wanted Jones, and that might end up hurting them. But, there's still loads of potential here. Chase Thomas UDFA has looked good so far. Junior Galette was the best pass rusher last season, but has moved to OLB, where he is better suited. He should have a big impact. Tez Wilson has FINALLY been moved to OLB as well. The guy runs a 4.4, and is freakishly athletic, his potential is through the roof. Then there's a few other guys.

It's a question mark, but saying they haven't done shite to fix the defense is laughable. They did all they could. The biggest thing is having Payton back who will control the ball and keep the defense off the field. They entire mood has changed for the team. They also brought in Ryan, who is similar to Williams, who clearly had the most success with the Saints. He's an in your face guy who will gamble and be aggressive, that's what this team needs. He's also never had an offense like this to give him leads.

I think he had issues all year with his strength. Like the great ones his mechanics masked those deficiencies of pure arm strength. When it got really cold he obviously wasn't as ccomfortable and like anyone was a bit more guarded /tighter which was just enough to make him look noticeably different. Pretty sure there was some shitty weather during that game too which did t help.

It was like 8 or 9 degrees if I remember correctly by the end of the game. Supposedly there were some issues with him losing feeling in his hand pre-game, which is why he wore a glove for the first time

You're a PT. Any chance he could have regained some strength in his arm over the offseason?

So the dome team with a shitty defense is going to just dominate the broncos in NY in February. Makes sense. Eta:after going to San Francisco and likely playing in muddy, wet and windy late January game.

You don't have to have a top 10 defense to be successful now a days. Just look at the Saints in '09 and '11, top offense in the NFL with a defense that just made enough plays to win games, etc.

A team having a top flight offense and D is very rare in this NFL, as long as you have something good anything can happen. The NFC is going to be insane and just about any of like 6-7 teams could end up being the #1 seed and I wouldn't be surprised

I just can't see how the defenses for Atlanta or New Orleans equates to obtaining a 1 or 2 seed. The offenses both have the ability to put up 40+ a game, but the defenses also have the ability to give up 40+ as well. Both defenses will lose games for them this year.

In response to your post, if they had:

quote:

Jordan, Hicks, Bunkley, Harper, Jenkins, Greer, Robinson, White, Lofton, Hawthorne, Vilma, Galette, Wilson

All on the roster prior to the hiring of Spags, then why was Steve the coaching hire and not a 3-4 coordinator? I'm not trying to say that your explanation of the skill sets are wrong, I am just trying to understand why the coaching move was made to bring in a 4-3 coach when, if you say is correct, a large portion of the players are 3-4 fits. Why not go after a lesser profiled 3-4 coordinator? Obviously it was a wrong move by the front office. Was the hire strictly made based on the name?

I repeat: in 2009 and 2012, NO and ATL (respectively) earned the NFC #1 seed with bottom ten defenses.

Green Bay went 15-1, and had the #1 seed in 2011 with the worst defense in the league.

You are ignoring recent history in your stubborn effort to be "edgy".
