Whos this? I try to keep up with most teams pretty well but all the moves are running together. Yeah I'm surprised the Cubs did away with Dero, that guy was solid. But as an Astros fan, I'm ecstatic we don't have to see him anymore. That dude always crushed us.

Aaron Miles. And with Dero I understand what they are trying to do, he's 34 now, he just had the most productive year of his career so sell now before he regresses. But I think he was a wonderful clubhouse guy and probably the team MVP with his versitality last year that it would have been worth hanging on to him.

you read the news about alex gonzales?
Posted on 1/26/09 at 11:55 am to Duckman13
i love how all of these threads have the Astros finishing 5th. When was the last time the Astros finished 5th in the NLC? 07 was their worst year in a decade and they were 4th. Every year people want to hate on the Astros especially after slow starts and every year the Astros turn it on in the second half to either go into the playoffs or make a push to finish close. Last year we finished with 86 wins in a very good NLC. I don't think the NLC is going to be as good this year as it was last year and the Astros have the same team coming back with the exception of Ty. Not going to say they are going to make the playoffs but I def don't think they are a 5th place team in the Div.

Yeah. I also read where Castellini thinks the Reds are a true contender.

Aaron Miles.
Thats right, I forgot they picked him up. Yeah it definitely won't be the same not having the kind of role player Dero is. He played pretty much every where for ya'll from what I can recall. I understand the age thing but hes still versatile and productive and apparently a clubhouse guy. So does that put Fontenot as the every day starter at 2nd?

Just like last year's preseason I really think you can jumble up the teams ranked 2-5 in the divison and they can finish in any order. I picked them 5th b/c
1)The Cards seemingly stay in the mix every year with random pitching staffs, and I think this year will be no different. Plus they have the best player in the Division on their team
2)The Reds- I overrated them last year and may have again this year. If Harang didn't blow last season they may have been closer to what I thought. I think they potentially have the 2nd best rotation in the league, they also potentially have the 5th best in the league. It really could go either way
3)The Brewers - They still have a very good offense and I'm not convienced that Sheets won't be back. Gallardo will be back too
4) And as for Los Astros, Tejada is now 43, Carlos Lee was already fat and out of shape and now he's coming off of injury. They Have Roy Oswalt who had a mysterious loss in velocity last year and nothing much else behind him. Hunter Pence is a nice player too.
and Lance Berkman is light in his loafers.

I hope so, he has some pop, if not we will have a true 80's type middle infield with Theriot and Miles that have OBP's the same as their Slug% and hit 4 HR's between them

Don't forget Aaron Mother fricking Boone. There's an impact player.
Yeah, like said, teams 2-5 are a clusterfrick of mediocrity.

unless Carpenter is in STL's pen, Kevin Gregg would be the Cards best reliever
