I'm a Cards fan, and I'm happy they get a chance to defend. But none of this has made ANY sense to me. I hate the play in game. Atlanta had a better year than St. Louis, and 1 game decides who moves on? THEN the Cards get homefield advantage against the Nationals? An actual division winner who was 10 games better than them?

I already think it's idiotic that an All Star game decides homefield for the Series. This screwed over St. Louis big time in '04 against the Red Sox.

They don't get homefield against Washington, just the first 2 games. It's dumb, but not all the way dumb

Simple, win the game.

No, the Nationals have home field advantage.

It changes next year from the 2-3 format. And the Nationals do have home field

And I like the play in game. It actually makes the division important again

And I just noticed the Reds have to go on the road. How stupid is this, especially in a 5 games series.

MLB just doesn't get it.

Again, IT'S ONLY FOR THIS YEAR.

Back to the 2-2-1 format next year.

Why do this just 1 year then? I'll admit I haven't followed baseball as much as I used to.

The 2nd wild card was going to start next year, but they decided to implement it this year, but the schedules were already out. They had to do it based on days available before the LCS. 2-3 was the only thing that worked

I don't think so, it wouldn't be fair to the teams that win the divison

It's funny how slow baseball is to adapt to the 21st century, and then when they do, they create a cluster frick that looks like they took 3 minutes to plan it out.

I like the play in game, it actually penalizes teams for not winning division.

Get rid of divisions. 2 leagues. Seeded playoffs. No interleague play until the world series. Will never happen but it's better than any other format in recent years.

The people who say "just win the game" are dumb. Anything can happen in one game no matter who is playing. It's as fair as a coin flip.

Win your division. People forget, there used to be no wild card

I think its dumb that it takes 100 games to get to that 1 game.

How is that? It would be MORE advantageous for the division winners because the wild card team would have to play 3 games that the division winners don't have to play and puts the wild card team behind the 8-ball in that they will have to start the DS with their #4 starter.
