Meh, times were never hard for players who stayed on their original teams. You'd be hard pressed to find a situation where someone stayed on a team for less money and/or with a better team suiting them. Just doesn't happen and it isn't as romantic as people think it is. Guys that stay are usually offered more money and/or a better team, period.

Or there is a regime change and they bring in a new, younger replacement. The veteran wants to continue in a starting role, which is only possible elsewhere.
