Now a simple tweet has made this blow up, but this has been going on for months. Why is it just now that people on this site are reacting?
Because it intersected directly with the realm of sports, which is primarily what this site is about.
People have been posting about the HK demonstrations for months downstairs on the poliboard, but there was no sports angle until now. Throw in the fact that the NBA season is starting up and the team in question enjoys the most Chinese support, and you can see why it'd become more of a conflagration on tMSB and the main news cycle.

China essentially asked Blizzard and the NBA to do the same thing, but dumbfrick Blizzard actually said "Ok" and did it.

it's outrage culture dude
no one cared until Morey tweeted.
now everyone is a social justice warrior ready to take down the republic and put the NBA in their place
all while browsing the web on their shiny new iPhone 11 made in a Chinese slave factory.

Well they almost certainly will. China's about to pull the plug
I still think the NBA will win if this happens. If Chinese citizens love the NBA as much as it seems they do, will they really be OK with their government banning games on TV, jersey sales, jersey wearing, etc.?
Can China really handle angering their own citizens at the same time as fighting this Hong Kong battle?

Blizzard is in deeper water than the NBA right now IMO. They had another incident today with cutting off a stream of some players for supporting HK. I got a thread on the Gaming Board about it.
Damn I hadn't heard about that either.
I think the domino effect from all this could end up being bigger than any outcome involving just the NBA.

I know about Twitch cutting some of their livefeeds. But I didn't know about thet Blizzard ordeal.

No you are lying to yourself, if you believe anyone on this site (MSB) truly cared what was going in Hong Kong until the tweet.
I mean did anyone throw a fit about them going to play games in China when this was going on? No they did not. Stop being hypocritical.

And this is wrong, this has been a big news story for a while.
Just concede you're wrong, it's ok. Not sure why you want to dig yourself further in a hole here when 3 guys called your post wrong within like 3 minutes of posting it.

Uhh, even I don't follow the news that closely these days, but how can you say that? The HK protest has been one of the biggest regular news stories for months.

This is a lie. Stop the lies.
Let's not even bring up the fact that the Chinese government is exercising a reeducation/genocide on an ethnic minority right now.

The HK story is spread as the result of Western propaganda and the protesters are all violent according to Chinese news. The NBA thing led to some reactions from Chinese citizens who said things along the lines of, "I support freedom of speech too! 9/11 is a wonderful day!"
