Monahan is single handedly responsible for this shite show

No kidding. He fricked it up for everyone on that side except himself. Kinda sucks he doesn’t have to resign.

ETA: He’s good on a monetary basis. He’s lost the trust of all the players, so he’s got that going for him.

Golf Channel guys keep talking about how the LIV guys are going to be “welcomed back” on the PGA Tour, but will face fines or suspensions when they do.

Why would they? Don’t the Saudis fund and have heavy influence on the Tour now? Why would these guys face any suspensions?

paying them 50-300 million dollar signing bonuses for NFL players to play 8 games a year, sometimes at high school stadiums?

Because the NFL is not by any stretch an organization of individuals. If you could magically your snap your finger and have half the NFL suddenly leave for the USFL, the NFL would survive. No one has season tickets to Patrick Mahomes. A ton have season tickets to the KC Chiefs.

Now could the NBA do it? Much more doable, but still extremely unlikely.

lol there's zero chance that wasn't negotiated in.

Maybe as a small slap on the wrist to appease the ones who "held the line."

can’t say I’m thrilled with Saudi buying their way into a controlling interest in professional golf. I don’t see how anyone would be really.
I'm not either. Which is why Monahan should be hung by his balls

I can't see any way that Monahan is in his current position within 6 months. And I only give him that long because I think it's gonna take a good bit of time for the lawyers to hash out the merger.

What is one possible answer that would have made the players think it over and made it a productive meeting?

That we were running out of money. We were going broke competing with LIV purses. The players would get that sober reality. But he didn't say that.

More likely the PGA has been cooking the books and discovery was heading into a hard legal look at where the money has been going for decades.

I don't believe in a million years Monahan would ever say it to the payers in that business meeting if now they can close those cooked books forever.

He would rather be called a bum, liar, and hypocrite to give up the goods.
Governmental and political geopolitics are one thing, selling out your moral principles for the almighty dollar to play a game is another.
How convenient.

The leaders of the world selling out is ok but some guys playing golf need to be held to this higher standard. Lol

Rory blubbering about tradition and history of the game was always comical. He's not American. Remind me exactly why he moved here to play on the PGA Tour? The European tour had a long history with stories champions. Why didn't he remain there to uphold the traditions of the European tour? What exactly was it that convinced him to abandon his homeland and move to America???

Because the best golf is here you moron. He wants to compete against the best and establish his legacy. Some of you dipshits are ridiculous. How could you hate on Rory in any of this?

He passed up literally hundreds of millions of dollars and put his arse on the line repeatedly to try and protect the game. Of course some of you figs would side with the greed only losers.

This. There’s no other explanation.

Amazing how they have this status anyway

Mega churches have it and operate in a similar fashion. The PGA is a 501c non-profit business. The players are independent contractors and pay taxes accordingly. What's "left over" goes to charity or into the coffers for a rainy day per tax laws.

quote:

I mean how in the hell does anyone explain the ponying up of all this extra money when their hand gets forced by LIV to create these special set of tournaments with high $$$ payouts to retain player

No one forced anything. It is an agreement between two organizations. The amount of money pouring in is a non-issue. What they do with it however is and thats where it gets murky.

quote:

Did they just say frick the charities they were supporting and give them that much less???

Sort of. The non-profit business known as the PGA Tour will still exist as a 501c. What's murky is it is also going to form its own LLC and "invest" in a new entity or collective with LIV and DP. I have no idea how they justify that with the IRS, but I'm sure its been done and exists in other business models someplace.

Watching the Boys on No Laying Up and they are breaking down the whole merger.

1st, they said this is the PGA “snuffing” out the LIV Tour.

2cd, the LIV Tour will continue till the end of 2023.

3rd, there will be a board that will decides current LIV players whether they are allowed back to the PGA Tour. They basically said…some players will get a “frick You”…or “You’re Cool”…sounds like Phil and Reed are getting a “frick You”.

4th, they said how did they prevent leaks and how this came from nowhere.

Rory took the moral high ground in this fight. He was doing for the PGA Players what Brandel Chamblee was doing for the golf channel. The fact that Rory was often speaking out both sides of his mouth didn't help and folks are going to be happy to remind him of that so-called moral high ground.

Soly saying the “Saudi” got what they wanted by getting a seat at the table. PGA took the money, and the LIV Tour was left to dies. TC said the players who were loyal to the PGA should be pissed and the PGA hid behind the 9-11 families.

PGA saving a shot load of money on legal
Fees…even though, the court proceedings were going well for the PGA tour. LIV was trying to drag it out.
