It's BS, we'll start with Redskins, once it falls next up will be Braves, Indians etc. I'm curious why he doesn't do this to FSU, what with that ridiculous portrayal of a Seminole Chief played by a white guy.
Nobody gives a shite about that "slippery slope" except fans of the teams.

Have you seen the Indians logo? It's not a slur, but it's pretty damned awful looking, and far more offensive than the word "redskins"...

Washington's name? Yes.
The Braves? No.
The Indians name? No.
The Indians logo? It is a racist caricature yes but minor in the offensiveness compared to the slur of Washington's name. However it to should be changed to something less offensive. The Braves do logos of Native Americans well without making them into racist caricatures. The Indians need to take a page out of the Braves' book.

Neither was ULMs mascot, or Ark St. But they are newly renamed. I'm just saying it won't stop here, though I agree in name the Skins are worst, mascot Cleveland by far.

The people bitching in this thread are the real babies here. "Redskins" is racist and not important to you, so just let it go and stop looking for a reason to whine about something.

On a somewhat related note...do Braves fans still do the tomahawk chop? I remember that being big back in the day, but don't notice it much anymore (I admittedly don't watch the Braves as much). I know that used to rustle jimmies seeing 50,000 white people chanting like Native Americans

Well, ya kinda just did

quote:Big fat wrong. It's funny how a lot of the pc people refer to them as Indians, which should be considered more racist. They're not Indians and they're not even native Americans. Europeans gave the name America to the new world, so how can they be native to a word that is not even their word. People with lib disease always looking for some lame fight. Hey libs, it doesn't have to be a perfect world; some things can just be left a lone. Do not be easily offended; live by those words and spread the message.
"Redskins" is racist

You sound like you're easily offended.

Meh. Easterbrook has refused to use the name for years.

But the name will change, and that's good. Dumb, racist name.

The only people offended are white ivory tower liberals who probably are OK with minorities as long as they are not living in their gated neighborhood.

Why would changing this name be better?

I can imagine it's only a matter of time before ESPN and other TV networks follow suit.
There's no way they piss off the NFL by doing that.

If people actually used the word in a derogatory manner I could see people having an issue with it but the ONLY time people say the word is when referring to the football team which should make it a non-issue.

Is Redskins a blatant racial slur? Have you EVER heard anyone refer to an Indian as a Redskin? I have heard them called prairie n-words but never Redskins.

Oh yes, once the Redskins name is dropped this world will be a much better place! I for one can't wait!
Poverty, hunger, war, unemployment, racial tension, Miley Cyrus... it will all go away! Please Daniel Snyder free us from our bondage!
