Can someone please explain to me why he or anyone in his position should have to apologize for running up the score? I understand that a fake punt when you're up by 30 doesn't really gain you anything, but I can't stand this idea of "not running up the score". This is a professional sport, not junior high girls basketball. It might actually do the franchise that is getting destroyed some good to have the score run up on them a few times. Maybe then they'll wake up and actually try to get better instead of whining

eta: I hate Carroll, but for other reasons than his team is really good

He already did. He said it was in the game plan and he should have canceled it with them being up 30.

Well I agree he should have cancelled it and saved it for a game that it could have been useful

Meh, I don't have an issue with running it up, but running a trick play to pile on seems less than sporting.

He should be appologizing to Seatle fans for wasting a play call in a useless situation instead of saving it.

At worst, they can say it worked, at least and realize they will never be able to do it again since its now on film.

And if he's going to appologize to Buffalo fans, it should be from a sympathetic point of view for having to watch such a dumpster fire take the field everyday.

I seem to remember Carroll getting pretty upset with Jim Harbaugh when Stanford ran the score up on USC by going for two when the Cardinal was already up by a ton at the end of the game.

The obvious difference is that NFL players are payed and college players are not (supposedly).

Running up the score is a non-issue in professional sports. You're paid to stop them or keep it close. If you can't, then it's your problem.

Did Chan give PC a 'what's your deal' handshake at the end of the game? That would have been hilarious.

I have no problem with him running up the score, but what does this even mean?

The fake punt was a called play, how can he blame it on the game plan?

I might have an issue with it in CFB, but this is pro football. Anything goes IMHO.

A good team against a shite team in college, like Bama playing Georgia southern and beating them 70-0 isn't sporting but like last year when WVU hung 70 on Clemson in a BCS game, there was nothing wrong with that, IMO.

I don't have an issue with PC running up the score but a fake punt in the 4th quarter up 30 is fricking bush league. I am in disbelief every week when he meets the opposing coach at midfield and DOESN'T get punched in the face.

That defense is paid to stop the ball.

Honestly, I would be insulted if people stopped giving their best at me.

Plus with the new practice rules, why not try some things out in a game that is already decided.

Nah, the defense showed a certain look and the way they practice is that when the punt team sees this look, they automatically audible to a fake. That's why he said he should've called it off.

Most fake punts and fieldgoals aren't "called" right before the play. Special teams coaches find weaknesses during film study. Gameplans are approved and installed during the week where if the players see a certain setup/formation they run the play.
