People with in depth knowledge of the Hornets salary cap (SFP)

Its apparent we need help at the wing positions. Thornton looks like he'll be a mainstay, but some depth wouldn't hurt at the 2 guard spot and some serious help is needed at SF. Additional depth downlow wouldn't hurt. It seems like we give up size a lot of times. What can we do to make some of these things happen short of trading Paul? I know we have some bad contracts but I figure if we haven't been able to dump any of the three P's yet, its gonna be an uphill battle still.

Package Collison with Peja, Mo Pete, or Posey and get some decent talent in return. Other than that, our only attractive trade pieces that we can afford to give up are expiring contracts.

The Hornets have some expiring contracts next year, but the Okafor deal will be an albatross for a long time. The real problem for the Hornets is that the cap will probably shrink again next year and they will do whatever they have to do to get under it. That will probably lead to them giving away expiring contracts, giving away David West (who has a great contract), or taking on another terrible contract. Its too bad because this team should have a bright future, with the way the rookies have played and Paul being so young. I really wish they had just let Chandler expire. They could have taken their lumps this year and gotten a pretty good pick in a solid draft.

not in pejas case. in the off season he WILL be an expiring contract. hope he can turn it on the last couple of weeks so we can con a fringe team into taking him next yr....miami? okc? houston?
i say package dwest and posey to a fringe like miami or houston and be done with them. west still has value where we could package a shitty contract. posey/west isnt bad for a team looking to get over the top so we could get someone to bite.

If Collison keeps playing like this it makes sense to trade Paul for atleast one SF star and another solid front court piece. If we did that we could be a solid playoff team next year and then we drop the Peja and Mo Deals after next season or trade them. The whole team could be rebuilt strong and hopefully young.
This is not out of hate for CP3 but to make the Hornets contenders.

I'm thinking we could deal MoPete (enticing expiring contract) and a future second rounder or two around draft time for a late first round pick. Take Epke Udoh around 14-15th overall. Take Stanley Robinson, Lance Stephenson, or Devin Ebanks with the late first rounder. Take Jarvis Varnado or Dexter Pittman in the middle of the second round (do we still have that pick?). That would be an A+ draft, and you'll have a year to add experience and get in as a low seed in the playoffs...Peja's contract is off the books next off-season so you can add a legit player at whatever position you're not happy with. There ya go.

If the Hornets identify a few guys they really like in the draft and they are determined to shed salary, I would like the idea of trying to move up in the draft. They could probably trade DWest and their first round pick (which will probably be in the lottery) and move up. Are there any big guys outside of Cousins (do not want him at all)?
I don't think there is any way they could make a trade to get that guy from Ohio St., but that would be solid. Then, they could use Thornton plus an expiring to add something else. I'd really hate to see Thornton go though.

In order to do that, the Hornets will have to take on another bad contract.

If the Hornets were to trade CP3 for a couple of studs and a pick they could then just let Peja and Mo expire for their own cap relief.
The Hornets will hopefully bite the bullet next year and not stress out about the cap since they could let ~20 million expire if they chose.
Collison/Thronton
Thornton/Mo
Player from CP3 trade/Peja/Posey
Player from CP3 trade/West
Okafor
plus we would hopefully have 2 lottery picks

Hornets have too much dead weight on this team
Peja
Mo Pete
Wright
Posey
all are not worth the paychecks they are getting
until the hornets can cut these ties and actually bring in some talent they won't make another serious run in the playoffs

I just don't see any team wanting to pay $6M for a bench warmer.
The Hornets hands are tied until Pejas, Mo Petes, and Poseys contracts are off the books. The future is looking bright with MT and DC, but the team needs a true big man.

the Hornets problem right now is they have too many SHITTY wings on terrible contracts
MoPete/Posey/Peja/Wright are a combined 28.4mm out of the 70mm payroll
they cant afford any more wing depth

Collison could be dealt with Peja or Mopete next season for a good talent. Posey, though, you'd probably have to deal him and Collison FOR an expiring deal. Posey's got like 3 more years left, the other two expire after next season.

David West is the key to any package deal getting done.
