That's me when I played American Legion ball on a team with a bunch of college players. I drove my car, loaded with four players, to all of the away games. One game was close, on the scoreboard, and I didn't get to do anything except put my mitt on and go catch our flamethrower's warm up pitches every inning. Any 10 year old who wasn't afraid to catch 90+ mph throws could have done that. I wasn't mad. I was embarrassed.

What can we as a civilized society do to stop this epidemic? It seems like every day a new story like this pops up. I personally know several young people who would have made great coaches but avoided it as a career because of crap like this. The kids end up losing out on great people and role models because of a few crazy parents.

It seems to be constantly getting worse. What can be done?

seems and are....yea two different things. this kind of shite has always happened and will always happen. no worse now, you just know about it because of 24 hour news and social media now a days.

One of my kids is stuck on a daddy ball team is been really annoying. Worst I’ve seen in 6 seasons. All coaches kids bat first and pitch first. They don’t even swing the bat and are the worst pitchers. I’m staying quiet but also sending the stats to the league to show the disparities. And suggest these coaches are done after this season. Hits, BA, strike %, era l, errors, etc. it’s hilarious. The coaches kids are the youngest on the team and don’t even know the rules yet for this age bracket. It’s not cool to purposely lose to get your kids playing time or being in preferred positions.

I wouldn't send anything in to the league dude. Just use this as a learning experience and start your own team next year.

You sound like they type of guy who will eventually punch a coach for winning a state championship but not making sure your kid was the hero.

my oldest LL team was like that this year....suck it up and tell him to do the same. DO NOT COMPLAIN OR SAY shite ABOUT THE COACH IN FRONT OF YOUR KID either. that shite is not cool.

it sucks i get that......know how you can make sure it doesnt happen again...get your arse out there and volunteer.

In my case this year i was HC of tball and only assistant on that team. The HC wanted to run things his way with his kids getting to play where they wanted even if it wasnt best for the team. We won zero games....but guess what my kid learned alot of lessons and grew as a person.

It does suck but there are lessons to be learned no matter what. Dont send shite to the league, thats a douche move, simply ask that your kid not be with that coach next year, thats all you have to do or you can take him to travel or volunteer yourself.

Let me guess, this isn’t the first season you’ve had problems with what the volunteer coaches did with your kid. Like the other guys said, suck it up, work with your kid, and either change teams or start your own team.

If you did, I have a feeling you’d be posting on here about how the spoiled parents bitch because you aren’t playing their spoiled, unathletic kids, they don’t appreciate the time you put in to coach the kids, etc.

Gonna send stats to the league to try and get coaches blackballed…lol

Get over yourself, precious.

Vandy's Stud pitched in the semi finals and won.

#2(This guys son) was scheduled to throw in the finals on Friday

Friday game was postponed til Sunday which gave their stud enough rest.

Stud went in the finals and threw a complete game (shortened because of run rule)

Vandebilt scored several runs (3-4) in the bottom of the last inning to end it, that's another reason #2 didn't pitch once the game was in hand.

I don't know if anything was brewing during the season or not, but the dad screwed up. I don't know any of the involved parties, but I don't think he is a bad guy, but he let his emotions get the best of him for sure

What emotions? Wtf your kid didn't play the ship game but they won and the kid contributed all year.

Wtf would you be upset about?

I do coach, actually. Just not this one. My teams aren’t like this at all. My time invested doesn’t equate sabotaging games to play my son over better players.

When travel ball became Daddy Ball it began to normalize this behavior.

100 percent chance this wasn’t first time pops went after a coach.

Some Private schools have a trend of treating parents like customers and this is poisoning sports at some. Declining enrollment and budgets is behind it. It's going to get worse and baseball is by no means the worst.

3. Dad goes to summer team tryouts yesterday and punches the coach.

Did the coach see him coming or was it a sucker punch? Imagine being a kid at tryouts and seeing some random middle aged dude show up and attack the coach. Unreal

Certainly reasonable for the coach to pitch the ace if he was rested and ready.

Again, hard to blame the coach for that. It’s not like he left the ace to throw 9 innings in a game that was out of hand.

Sure, it would have been nice if this kid could have got an inning in late in the game but the mercy rule prevented that. Not sure why dad would be mad at the coach for any of that.

Just be happy they won a state championship and your kid was a major contributor

Yeah they have their own agenda which is to win ballgames. Parents are often too blind to see that their kid either sucks or whoever is playing ahead of them is just better.

I am not defending the POS parent at all, but coaches are not always supremely logical. I've seen it happen enough times to know they don't always play the best players, or they play them out of position, or they make horrible play calls, etc. Some coaches are just dumbasses, especially at the HS level.

I'll take this loss like a man. You can accuse me of whatever you want, good or bad. Unlike this dad did, and now he has to pay the fricking piper. Did you go to a private school?
