As I stated in my other post “a rule is a rule” but that ball would’ve been a home run had it not been hit as hard as it was. A 2 run homer that would’ve given the Padres the lead became an out. In instances like this it shouldn’t be recorded as an out. Especially so in the playoffs. What should it be? There are options but an out shouldn’t be one of them. I’m not arguing for the Padres in particular here. The rule favors no team. It just sucks because in this instance that HR essentially became a fly ball out because it was hit too hard. No team should have the prospect of losing a playoff series hanging over their heads due to that.

Lol you can’t assume that shite.

If it’s the ground rules and they’ve gone over it prior to the game, why not? The Padres didn’t even argue that it shouldn’t have been an out. They argued it was foul.

It should be what the umpires and managers discussed pregame!

Seems like a fair rule then.

Why do you keep assuming home run? You don’t assume anything else in any other sport including baseball but for this one instance you’re assuming home run. They went over the ground rules, the ground rules for domes are pretty universal, and the Padres didn’t even argue what you’re arguing.

I’d like to add something here. This happening is an indictment on the approach of batters at the plate nowadays as well. Everyone so worried about creating lift and launch angle and all that other contrived bullshite, if he was more worried about putting a good swing on it and just trying to drive the ball, we probably aren’t talking about this retardation.

I'm a big Padres fan and that was about as bad of luck as you can possibly have.
Would have likely been one of the great moments in Padres' history considering Ty France's big comeback -- or better, breakout at 34 years old after considering retirement -- story.
Padres would have sent out Miller to very likely go up 1-0 and have the upper hand in the series.
However, that kind of quirky, weird luck is baseball.

Video of the play would be nice for those of us who missed it.
I'll link it.

A ball hit as hard as it was and traveling as far and fast as it did at the height it hit and angle that it was is going to the seats. Even after hitting the cable and losing much of the above it still made it to the warning track. That ball was smoked and you know it.
As far as”what should it be”? That’s something to be taken up in the offseason. For now they play by the rules. It’s a shitty rule. Lots of sports have shitty rules.
Yeah, no kidding the Padres aren’t arguing what I am. They have no choice but to argue it was foul. My goodness. This isn’t difficult unless you’re looking to argue.

I'm someone can tell me why I would be wrong to suggest this, but I almost wonder if it should be treated as a foul ball as some sort of happy medium.
Usually when a ball hits an object it's no longer considered in flight to be an out. Like when it hits a wall. Being in a dome really complicates things here. I almost think if a batter hits the ball that high to make contact with whatever that structure is that maybe they have earned some sort of foul ball status. At the same time I get how some of these types of hits could be potential regular popups if not for the dome.
I still understand there are ground rules and why it's treated as a live ball.
Just an unfortunate break for whoever hits the roof.

It could also have dropped and been a hit,

Why should it be? It was a live, fair ball. This rule has been around and agreed upon as long as domestic have been around.
You’re bitching to bitch about something that isn’t warranted. You’re assuming a home run (you can’t, officially) and calling to change a rule that seems widely accepted and agreed upon.

Lol, he wasn’t robbed of a home run. He hit the ball 6 miles in the air and it caused him to be out. Boo hoo.

A lot of sports have shitty rules. This is one of them. People agree to stupid shite all the time and they live with the consequences. That doesn’t make it less shitty considering the circumstances of a playoff game. The off-season is when stuff like this gets addressed and it should be but if it isn’t life goes on. As I’ve said, both teams play by the same rules and that makes it fair as both teams can fall victim to it. While the impact of the rule can be game or season altering if a series swings because of it. That sucks. I would hate to see a championship won in this manner even though it is within the agreed upon rules.
Listen to Contreras, the Brewers catcher, who said it was gone. You’re arguing with me without knowing a number of Brewers players and coaches also said it was gone.

I have. I just can’t make you understand it. That’s the problem.. if you’re being serious. Which I’m not convinced that you are.

I read a breakdown saying a ball hit with 105 mph exit velocity and a 45 degree launch angle has virtually no expectation of being a home run in any MLB park outside of Houston.
