Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, and it appears he’s ready to prepare for that instead of working to return to the Buckeyes this season.

Bosa, who had surgery to repair a core muscle injury earlier this season, has chosen to focus on the next chapter of his football career, per Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch:

Looks like @nbsmallerbear will focus on NFL instead of possible return to Buckeyes, sources told me and cohort @brdispatch today https://t.co/ACg1J6FTTi

The younger brother of Joey Bosa, also a recent top-five NFL draft pick, Nick’s potential return to the field later this year was questionable at best, anyway. It should come as no surprise that he’s choosing to focus on getting back to full strength in hopes of maximizing his draft stock, rather than rushing back to the field at the college level.

You guys will still pound the conference. But, it would make a difference in the playoffs IMO. I'm kind of wondering if Rashan Gary is doing a form of this right now.

Well there goes any hopes Ohio State had of being a playoff threat.

Understand his decision but man that’s a kick in the gut. Don’t think there will ever be an Ohio State defender as dominant as he was.

I understand his decision.

Ohio State football just doesn't mean as much to him as his ultimate goal.

He's a junior.

I don't blame him at all. He should take his time and recover.

Kyle Rowland just tweeted he withdrew from school even. Completely done with OSU.

On one hand, I think this is a smart business decision. On the other hand, this makes me think less of him as a competitor and teammate.

It’s a big loss for you guys, but imo it is preposterous to claim it means no playoff now

A defense has 11 guys, not 1. Somebody will step up

No one is going to hold it against him, especially his buckeye teammates. Sure he could try to make a comeback this season, but why risk an even worse injury when you have millions of dollars waiting for you in the coming year?

I think this is going to happen more and more.

Top level recruits don't give AF about college accomplishments especially of the team variety.

They just want to get that NFL money.
