They said it wasn’t obstruction by the catcher. In what fricking world? He is in front of the plate without the ball

And the catcher never had the ball. The frame you’re showing is a moment after the ball bounced off the catcher’s glove.

When the collision happens, the catcher falls back on top of the plate - because he positioned himself between the plate and the runner WITHOUT possession of the ball.

This shows just how horrific the call was

Catcher had no possession of ball way behind him and he is in front of the plate completely blocking it

It’s impossible this was simply “missed”

another angle of the catcher, with zero baseball in hand or even near him, blocking the plate

Stonehog, thoughts?

I think Oregon has a legit case of playing under protest. The ncaa can’t defend the no obstruction call

Can you imagine what the rant would be like today if that was called against LSU?

No attempt at a slide,
Where was he supposed to slide? The catcher was a foot down the 3rd base line and had the entire plate and base path blocked.

If the runner wanted to hurt the catcher, he would have lowerd his shoulder and really trucked him. Instead looks like he pulls up a bit just before impact.

ETA: photo from post above showing there was nowhere for the runner to slide

Defensive player can’t block the base path without the ball. Catcher never had the ball, so it should have been obstruction

Even if the NcAA can’t reverse the call and replay the game…they should remove the suspension of the player for today’s game.

If they let that stand, they are a soulless, corrupt organization and the whole Oregon team should show up at their headquarters and collectively take a big shite on their front stoop.

There was an obstruction call on a run to first base that never even got reviewed when we were at Alabama last year. That was bullshite too

it’s a botched call, a misapplication of replay, a horrible interpretation of “malicious”, took a run off the board and moved another runner out of scoring position AND got a player ejected from two once in a lifetime postseason games

plus in real time it was like 10 minute stoppage of the game which is just

horrific

And if the call was accurately made, Oregon does not lose by 1.

Looks like the runner was contemplating a slide but the catcher was so far in front of the plate he pulled up last minute

I couldn't believe how well the kid who got kicked out took it. He was mad, but I think I may have had an aneurysm.
