Finals are over and they aren’t enrolling in the next semester so this isn’t in any way a punishment.

I say be part of the team or gtfo. I personally don't think they should have that privilege. You are either part of the team or you aren't. Close out a season that you played with your brothers.

I'm not saying an injury hasn't happened, but there are (42 bowl games and 30 people on each team), that's 2520 guys (FCS alone) out there playing ball and probably less than .5% (dozen) will have any type of injury at all.

But, what is 100% is the fact that the team that played throughout the year isn't properly represented. The people that paid to attend, sponsor and watch are getting a cut rate deal. It just leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Look at the people bitching about the bowls as a whole. Why play them at all if not for a NC.

say what you mean = what the hell is a 'boomer' in context with the OP?

are you trying to get some credit for knowing the latest SJW insult or something??

as to the OP - if a person voluntarily 'sits out' the game, he is not welcome to sit there. What's the point? How is it helpful to the only goal that matters = winning the game?

Now if he is not playing because of an injury or something else out of his control, then fine - he can still be an inspiration.

IF he is a good ol boy, and for legitimate reasons 'just doesn't want to play' - then let him sit in the stands along with the other fans.

There's got to be at least on person on that team who practiced his arse off the entire year and got very little playing time, and doesn't expect to get much playing time in the bowl game either, but who showed up in uniform ready to do whatever he can for the team <== if you want to give someone some credit for just 'being there' THAT is the guy who deserves it - not someone who just didn't think it was 'convenient' enough to make the commitment.

I got no respect for such a person. No animus, but there in nothing in the story so far that invites any kind of respect.

So they haven’t put in hard work, for years, on the field and in the classroom, enough to help the team win the West, that they can’t stand on the sideline during an exhibition game that means absolutely nothing?

So - if your team is working on a high-level proposal that impacts the future of your company, and one of your critical contributors decides to take a personal vacation during the final 2 weeks prior to completion of that proposal, is he welcome to the party celebrating the announcement of the winner?

nope, once you quit don't let the door hit you on your arse, and you forfeit your participation award too

Jesus.

And these kids are suppose to respect you?

I think you old dudes are going overboard. It’s 2022, not 1960, the game means nothing. It’s just fun for us to watch and root for our school. Nothing more nothing less.

I’ve noticed a number of bowl games now where the opted out players are still on the sidelines for the game.

Thoughts on this? And will LSU do the same?

Personally I don’t like it, I think at the point of opting out you’re no longer on the team.

Why even have an opinion on this?

It has no impact on me or my enjoyment on the game.
No more than Shaq being on the sideline.

You know Shaq is not on the team when he is on the sidelines right?

I’m sure treating one of your players in this manner would go over well on the recruiting trail.

I can see your Facebook post “Man if we had Boutte we would have won the mustard yellow riding lawnmower bowl” “I’m going to beat my wife now”
I mean I wouldn’t see your FB post bc I don’t do FB but I can imagine what old people write on there.

I'm an "old" dude and I got no problem with it.

Nah, frick that. If you don't want to play, i.e. be a part of the team, get your arse in the stands with the rest of the spectators.

There’s a difference, and I shouldn’t have to explain that.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t ever be welcomed on the sidelines in the future like any former Tiger at home games, but traveling for the bowl and getting to participate in everything it involves isn’t fair to the guys actually practicing and playing in the game.

could give a rats arse about our bowl, just talking simple principles and ethics, something in short supply anymore, and to the above post about sending a message to future recruits, hell yes I'd send it, if we offer you an opportunity to come here we expect something in return, chest, commitment, work ethic, investing in the program, etc., I know all of that's meaningless anymore, it certainly is on this board but the current status is killing amatuer sports if it hasn't already

ETA: "Facebook" what is this?

NO! Even if you are a stellar employee and do great things but decide on Nov 15th to leave a company for whatever reason, better opportunity, family time, etc....

When bonuses come out on Dec 20, you don't get one. You left. Deal with it.

This is precisely why our society is getting more and more screwed up.

Too many don’t believe in responsibility accountability, and loyalty.

I have no problem with any player choosing to opt out for any reason. But… the minute they do, they are no longer a member of the team and should not be allowed to be on the sidelines alongside the players who choose to practice and play for their team.

Perfect example..... Shaq bleeds purple and gold. He has been an advocate for LSU, talks them up, represents well, the list goes on and on.

Lets think about the people that opted out: started with LF, and the list grew, how many of them really support and give LSU any good recognition? Do you think Kayshon Boutte will ever be that LSU beacon?
