Literally my first NFL memory as a suburban Nashville 90s kid is my parents taking us to go see the Tennessee Oilers play at Vanderbilt's stadium. Young me instantly made the Tennessee Oilers my squad. Oilers/Titans. It's both the same thing.

There’s a blame on all sides for them moving. Keeping the name though was him being a spiteful a-hole (because that’s what he is). The Oilers name and identity has zero symbolism with Tennessee or their fans. You still regularly see people here wearing Oilers gear and it’s a part of the city’s culture. If he had left the name alone when he moved like Art Modell I don’t think people would care anymore. But he didn’t, and him and his entire family can get fricked

Well I can personally refute the idea that "the Oiler name has zero identity or symbolism with Tennessee or their fans". People have been rocking Oiler dig in Tennessee for nearly 3 decades now. Come to any Titans game and you'll see the Oiler gear being rocked everywhere as you walk around. My first childhood NFL memory was cheering for the Tennessee Oilers. As a Titans season ticket holder my Cutter & Buck Luv Ya Blue polo is one of my favorite Titans apparel in the rotation.

I can't remember if it was '97 or '98 - it was after the Titans name had been revealed, but before it was in place - the Oilers were playing the Jets, and the promo for the match-up was "the once and future Titans."

God, it’s been approximately 25 years, but didn’t they originally relocate to Memphis? What happened there — between Memphis and Nashville?

Roger needs to step in and force Tennessee to give the Oilers name back or at least sell it back. Texans is a terrible name.

Wish the Texans would walk out for a game wearing it before the Titans game. Steal the thunder. Pay the fines.

Especially if the game Tennessee unveils then is Texans vs. Titans.

Wear them for a Texans home game before and sell off all of the game worn equipment and give the $$ to a charity.

Best part of this reveal has been the amount of people that don’t know the Tennessee Oilers were actually a thing from 97-98.

I do.

I was a walk-on at Alabama in 1998 when we played Virginia Tech in the inaugural Music City Bowl. Tennessee played the Vikings (when Randy Moss was a rookie and they should have played Elway’s Broncos in the Super Bowl) while we were there at Vanderbilt’s stadium, and we went to watch some of the game.

It was freezing arse cold in Nashville that week.

I mean, Bud did what he wanted and by the time he died and left the team to his family, there was another team in Houston. I get the whole "frick Bud Adams" sentiment, but his family didn't make those calls.

because the Oilers had great uniforms and a nickname that fits the city perfectly. Now we have the bland Texans and a failson for an owner.

The oilers leaving when they did and Saban going to LSU happening right as I picked up peewee football is probably why I have always liked college more than the NFL.

The Titans are the Oilers and the Texans are the Texans. Sorry Houston.

It was the Dallas Texans before they moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs.

The Oilers were founded in Houston.

You must be a Cowboys fan.

I noticed Nike is using a New Jersey Template. Interested to see if more teams will adopt it..mainly the Green Bay Packers

But they could have let Houston have the colors and even the name. The name and history mean nothing to Nashville. I think Bud got shafted by Bob Lainier and Drayton McLane though he’s not blameless but in the end he got what he wanted so why should the family be so petty?

Your one year with the “Tennessee” Oilers in Vanderbilt Stadium >>>> Houston’s 36 years with the Oilers
