The Ohio State athletic department is projecting a $130 million loss in athletics revenue following the postponement of fall sports by the Big Ten.

The projection was taken from recently released materials and an agenda for a board of trustees meeting scheduled for this Thursday. In that meeting, the coming fiscal year’s budget is up for approval, and there will likely have to be some hard decisions made. This is coming off a season in which OSU finished in the red

It was already projected that even teams that play are going to lose millions.

You don't get revenue with no fans, no tailgates and TVs turned off.

bullshite.

The money big money comes from TV contracts. TV ad rates haven't dropped for Fall college ball. In fact, they are creeping up because of limited inventory.

Kevin Warren is but a stooge to the Marxist college Presidents. He did Their bidding. He's the fall guy.

Is he an idiot for torpedoing his own league? yes.

Do the TDS governors and university Presidents care? Absolutely not.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Michigan's governor and Wisconsin's governor for not allowing a 5 game home and home.

Heil Whitmer will feel the effects of this decision when it's time for the people of Michigan to vote her out.

How does a huge athletic department with a huge fan base like OSU finish in the red? Poor management?

If Biden wins, as unlikely as it is, she will get a plum position because she is one of his top campaign chairs IIRC.

Hence a lot of this bullshite by her.

Kinda hard to watch B1G football on the TV when there is no B1G football

OSU has tons of sports, way more than other schools. Not saying it’s an excuse to overspend but that’s a big part of it

Depends on where your costs are and, potentially, where your lost revenue is.

I haven’t paid attention to their basketball lately but losing out on Big Ten tournament money and March Madness money can’t help, as those are part of what makes basketball one of the two money sports.

They also had to shutter all their spring sports, which means you are stuck paying all fixed costs (salaries, facilities, etc) without any tickets to offset them.

But his argument was they were going to lose money even if the season was played, then listed TVs being off as a reason why. Also listed tailgating. How much do you really think universities are taking in on tailgating? Virtually nothing.

I’m not saying it’s a huge amount in the entirety, but have you ever seen a gift store or gear store on campus in gameday? Those places are packed for people wanting to buy $150 jackets and $110 shirts.

If he's a stooge (and he is), then he has no choice in the matter.

This is the thing. He didn’t make this call on his own. It may have been what he wanted, but the presidents made this call

There is zero evidence that a majority of the presidents made this call. Zero.

Are you suggesting that Warren has the juice to make this call independent of the presidents AND achieve total support on the decision without having consulted with them previously on a decision that will cost each school tens of millions of dollars?

Because I don’t.

Well, losing 50M is very different than losing 100M.

Also, why would TVs be turned off?
