No way in the world that this was a straight red. Hopefully we can appeal.

I'm so happy right now I don't quite know what to do in the middle of the afternoon.

fricking great game. Though we gave them too much space, we owned Xavi. There was a time where he gave up possession four times in a row.

With our shitty T.O.P. ratio, we needed it.

Alright, here are my thoughts. I haven't read the match thread yet so I am sure there are repetitions in my post, but I don't care since I am very happy about the result.

The red card on Bradley was absolutely criminal. I don't think that was even a yellow, but I guess I could see it being called that way. That's the second truly bad red card that the US has received in this tournament.

Spector, DeMerit, and especially Onyewu were exceptional today. Onyewu was great in the air as always, but he also cleared some dangerous loose balls. He was the man of the match in my opinion, and he severely limited Spain's opportunities in attack.

Great game for Howard. He saved a bunch of threatening shots, especially from David Villa. He was very composed and did a great job on the early corners as well. That set the tone for the match.

Excellent hustle from Dempsey and Donovan. When those two guys really care about the match, the US looks so much better.

Benny Feilhaber was a great substitution in the 68th minute. Davies was no longer effective and Feilhaber was a spark in the last quarter of the game. I look forward to seeing him start in the final.

Altidore's goal was huge, of course, but that guy has such a poor touch on the ball some times. He looked much better holding up the ball in some of the other games. His passing game needs a lot of work as well. If he isn't given a lot of free space, he can be a turnover machine.

Great game for the US. Hopefully we will display a similar effort against the winner of South Africa-Brazil.

...was it basically bunker defense and fend off a ton of offense by spain?

We scored in lightning flashes. They had the ball way more than us. We kept giving it right back to them over and over. Most of our possessions were under 15 seconds. Couldn't string our passes together, passing way forward instead of back and across.

I can't rationalize my thoughts right now but.. I knew that was our best defensive lineup. Benny Feilhaber is the man. Conor Casey sucks. Jozy Altidore is a powerful man. Landon is a bad mofo.

We need to move dempsey up and Feilhaber into the starting line up. Feilhaber has done nothing but good while he's been in games.

Feilhaber's goal against Mexico in the Gold Cup is good enough for me to never bash that guy.

Tim Howard is one of the best goalies in the world and he showed it today. Our defense was outstanding, Bob Bradley should listen to me more often.

Altidore is the fricking man. Man was I wrong about this team. Great showing. Unbelievable really. Like I've said before, Altidore is going to be the first real superstar for this country.

He has a lot to work on right now. He was kind of like Dempsey in the match against Egypt. While he scored an extremely important goal, he looked pretty bad the rest of the game.

Hopefully this will improve his profile in Spain though. He just needs more experience and he should be able to improve his touch.

Altidore is a big powerful man, he will get better. His move to get space on his goal was world class.

The kid is 19 if he can gain some ball handling skills and maintain that speed and power, he really is going to be a superstar.

Let's just hope he doesn't go the way of Demarcus Beasely.

It makes me sad to watch him play because of how good he used to be.

Beasley weighs 125 lbs, Altidore is a full grown man at age 19.

Yeah, that was a really nice move, but his poor touch on the ball and constant turnovers can really mess up a team's rhythm. It isn't so much a problem with the US national team, but a team with more skill and worse conditioning (like Villareal) could definitely find reasons to keep him on the bench.

Since Jozy seems to work best with a second forward, and Dempsey & Donovan are not usually great defenders, I think Jermaine Jones will be a huge help for the team. I wonder if he will be eligible for the Gold Cup games.
