At least Dallas had a bunch of injuries.

VGK just made the Avs quit. Best team in the nhl gets bounced

"Man dumbstruck that same thing happens every year in NHL"

In the last 25ish years, only 2 Presidents' Trophy teams have won a Stanley Cup. The "best team" rarely wins a Championship, in any sport with an expanded playoff.

The VGK have now had 4 head coaches in their history. Torts becomes the 3rd to make the SCFs immediately after taking control of the team.

Only Pete DeBoer failed to do so, as well as being the only VGK coach to miss the playoffs.

unbelievable success for that expansion franchise in such a short time. ya'll are now the favs to win the cup

brother, they were the best team by a larger margin and got swept with home ice advantage

That rarely happens.

ECF winner will have home ice advantage in the final.

Still a little shocked the Avalanche got swept.

This is not like those game seven defeats during Avs 1.0 that almost killed me, but this one is a real shocker. They just had no clue-and for a team that absolutely dominated statistically all year long-to suddenly go completely limp in the playoffs-is beyond disappointing. Of course, -ALL credit goes to the better team-VGK.

2025-2026 was a great ride. I think the window is closing though. Sure, the core is still at PEAK but a sweep like that can really crush a team's confidence and sense of destiny. Had it been a seven-game series I'd be more optimistic about their future-but this just feels like an ending to me in some way. I hope I'm wrong.

I only watch playoff hockey, but I knew that the Avs were "supposed" to be the best team.
Early in the game Last night they struggled to get the puck into the offensive zone. It looked comical. 2 or 3 offsides in a row....
and Then the power play from game 3? Disorganized. Lethargic.

Yep frick Vegas and George McPhee..but

I also went back the last 20 seasons before the playoffs to try and find any patterns of cup winners and noticed no team has won the cup with less than 36 regulation wins (may need to double check but 99% sure), so I based my cup futures on that. And now Vegas comes along basically left for dead firing their coach before the playoffs for Torts and is going to end that streak. Absolutely unreal. I don’t see Montreal or Carolina taking them down. They’re on a mission and made the Avs their bitch.

Vegas/Carolina odds would be interesting. I would probably bet Carolina as I feel like Vegas caught the Avs dinged up at just the right time. But, Vegas could sweep them, I don't know. Marner is kind of a dork, but I'll be happy for him if he raises the Cup and just laugh at Toronto.

Nothing about this series has ANYTHING to do with the first 91 games they played. Having watched hockey for 30 years-I'm never surprised at playoff hockey in general. But a sweep was unthinkable because not only were they statistically dominant-and by a huge margin all season-but this was not even competitive. At no point were the LVGK ever really challenged.

Anyhow-props to them-they are tough and skilled and gritty and look they are on the way to a Cup. No crying in hockey.

*maybe a little whining though

bednar either needs to figure out how to handle the neutral zone trap or yall have to move on. the book is out on how to beat colo in the playoffs.

The thing is-Torts always does that-it's not like Bednar and all the players didn't know exactly what was coming.

I suspect Bednar has coached his last game with the Avs.

i was trying to not venture there. i fully understand how they were setup for success from the get go. I won't argue that.

What is funny though is how toxic Toronto is. Their scapegoat Marner is about to be playing in the Stanley Cup finals Maybe they can trade away Nylander too annd watch the same thing happen and continue to pin their hopes around Auston.

the neutral zone trap

those great devils teams were so good at that. then they had marty behind them. dude would face like 20 something shots a game. he would sit back there eating his lunch like he was at a picnic.

Did not have to worry about some 40 or 50 plus saves needed like with so many other goaltenders.

i'd gladly take mathews in montreal if it did not mortgage our future (yeah i know)

he'd be a great addition to the youngsters we have now.

leafs would be left with tavares and nylander.

marner and mathews gone!

yeah toronto fans were some mad at "bitch" marner after the 2021 collapse against us.

The Marner situation is pretty hilarious
Toronto literally ran their hometown star out of town and IMMEDIATELY he has playoff success
He seems like a good guy and is a great player, I've been impressed by him the entire playoffs

I don't like VGK either but the salt is ridiculous over Hart. Especially from Leafs fans who still took Doug Gilmour after he raped a 13 year old babysitter.
