They've always could have done this though. They get kids that go to school their just to play sports, mostly football. Most of these kids are also really good at baseball.

Catholic league baseball was way down this year, and even in years past, is hardly what it was 15-20 years ago when Curtis would have gotten respect for playing up in that league.

but they want to go brag and make tshirts now when they win the league. And go out and lose to fricking Chalmette

didn't you pound me for saying this ain't the same Catlick league a few years back?

.

Last team to get past the second round was 04 when they got to the semifinals and lost to Parkview Baptist.

Last team to lose in the second round was in 2005-6 season when the St.Bernard Unified team got skunked 10-0 by East Ascension lol
you're off by a year... '05 we lost to Parkview in the semis. I looked it up and indeed we made it to round 2 as SBUS...

in baseball?

i probably would have said that a few years ago.

Jesuit won in 2011. Rummel was in the title game in 12'. BM has been pretty solid.

this year is just down. Rummel esp isnt close to what it used to be.

My point is, it still wasnt what it was from the early 90's and into the mid 2000s. Jesuit, Rummel and BM all won titles. Jesuit multiple. Rummel was top 5 nationally ranked. Shaw was formidable and killing it in legion ball. Rummel also won a legion national title.

I think it probably a little of the northshore effect that has taken some bite out of the Catholic League in baseball.

Wait, you're telling me they were trying to play in 5A in football ALL those years they won 4A and lesser championships.

No way, can't be.

Evangel was in 5A and playing in the finals annually, and the 5A schools wouldn't let JC play in their reindeer games.

C'mon man!

in 2003 and and early 2004 there were discussions with the LHSAA about JC playing up to 5a in football - ONLY.... this is when the play in class talk got started... FACT.. not fiction... two North LA principals and 4-5 south LA principals started that movement....

go read the minutes from the LHSAA meetings back then.. it's quite interesting who wanted ECA out of 5a and didn't want JC in...

Well, I don't think I need to go read the minutes of those meetings to round up the usual suspects, but that doesn't excuse JC of avoiding playing up all the way for decades prior to that.

And FTR, I have never held JC in disfavor for its concentration on athletics or where the kids come from. If a parent wants emphasis placed on that, so be it.

It's quite ironic that John Curtis doesn't want his baseball, softball, track, etc teams to be in a classification with no chance at winning a state title (his words), but the entire split has happened because all of 2A hates that their kids don't have a shot at a state title with Curtis and Evangel in their division.
