The Habs since Alaine Vigneault is behind the bench for nyr

He's owed for destroying the Habs while he was there.

The irony being that there was no mention at all of the Blue Jackets out-drawing the Penguins in attendance from 2000 to 2007. Perhaps 2004 is one of those suppressed memories too. You know, when the Penguin’s average attendance was slightly over 11,000 per game - good for dead last in the NHL. Re-runs of Voltron drew higher numbers than a Penguins home game in 2004.

O I remember those years. Could buy a ticket then just sit right up on the glass. Such a bandwagon fan base.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: PIT will announce this morning GM Ray Shero and head coach Dan Bylsma have been fired. #TSN

quote:

@MolinariPG: Will be interesting to see if Botterill ends up as Shero's successor. Rising, young front-office star who's been mentioned for several jobs.

quote:

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Not sure if he has interest in being a GM, but many in PIT believe owner Ron Burkle would like Sidney Crosby's agent Pat Brisson to be GM.

quote:

@MolinariPG: John Hynes, coach of Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre, is NHL-ready. Should be high on the list of candidates to replace Bylsma.

quote:

@TIOPS_DePaoli: As i reported Wednesday, Executives have been buzzing about Pat Brisson being a top GM candidate in Pittsburgh if Shero got canned.

quote:

@NickGossNESN: Crosby is 26, Malkin 27. Penguins have to capitalize on these players' primes.

quote:

@cotsonika: Bad coaches have good teams. Good coaches have bad teams. Rosters decline. Messages get stale. Teams, coaches need changes.

quote:

@KDPomp: Red Wings are aware of Pens interest in Mike Babcock. They will try to extend. Lots of behind the scene stuff going on right now

quote:

@MolinariPG: Penguins exec David Morehouse says next GM will evaluate coaching staff and that Jason Botterill will be interim GM and candidate for job.

quote:

@TheFourthPeriod: On Bylsma... Can tell you he certainly "lost the room" not only in PIT but on Team USA during Olympics. A few players not a fan.

SportsCenter now breaking it as well.

I would be shocked if Babcock goes to the Penguins.

Don't think it's happening.

Dan Bylsma has not been fired.

Only GM Ray Shero at this time, coaching staff decision will be up to new GM.

quote:

@pensreport: The new GM will come in and then any coaching staff firings will be determined by the new GMs evaluation.

quote:

@milchm86: Relax everyone. Bylsma is as good as gone. No new GM is coming in and keeping him as coach.

quote:

@ChrisRBarron: Your new GM should make the decision on a head coach. This sucks for Bylsma, left in the lurch, but its the right call.

quote:

@OtherNHLCrosby: Morehouse: "This is not a complete rebuild. We want to go from good to great." #Pens

quote:

@ChrisRBarron: Bylsma not getting fired - yet - leaves other NHL teams who might want to hire Bylsma in the lurch.

quote:

@umichhockey: Michigan Hockey alum Jason Botterill to serve as interim GM of @penguins and is a candidate for job.

Botterill will get the job.

Babcock only has one year left and the Wings have an aging core. That said, Nyquist looks like the real deal and I think Babcock wants to show he can win with a second generation of talent. His agent is likely leaking the Pens' interest so he can get a big raise, which he deserves anyway.

We have tons of great young talent, along with Nyquist. Brightest outlook in a while for this franchise in terms of future. That said, I wouldn't be shocked if he left, but I would be shocked if he ended up at Pittsburgh if he did leave.

Do not be surprised to see Barry Trotz surface in Washington or Pittsburgh. I think he is a good fit for both. Hard nosed, proved he can be a success, and brings attitude.

Trotz is my top candidate (among unemployed guys -- I'd prefer Babcock or Laviolette but they aren't coming to DC and they have a good job right now). I think Trotz's defense-first attitude is partly a function of the rosters he's been handed. His teams generated offense when he guys who could actually play offense. But he's great for rank and file guys, and his teams always perform better than they should on paper.

This is ridiculous, but a relative who is pretty connected in hockey circles said last year that Babcock actually has interest in the U-M job when Berenson retires. I guess the thinking is it's lower pressure and would allow him to stay in the area a few more years with his family. But, I sort of equate this with college football fanbases thinking they have a shot at guys like Gruden.

I've seen that today actually, but only as an assistant coach for a season while his daughter completed her senior year of high school.

The Babcock rumor has been floating around here for a few days. I'm sure they're just setting up Bylsma to be run off by the new GM, whoever that turns out to be.

I don't think Bylsma is the worst or best, but I was at game 5 against NYR and I can tell you that was the Pens last 2 years in a nutshell. You've got everything going for you, the home crowd is rocking and reasonably expects a victory, then the puck drops and it's awful.

Now if you don't mind, i have to resume my shift Tortorella-proofing Concol Center.

Anaheim-LA game 7 about to start. Might be Teemu Selanne's last game.

Not sure who to root for here. I hate dickslap and Katy Perry, but I love Selanne. Kind of indifferent on LA, though I do love Quick.
