Good lord, you could fill up an entire lifetime talking about country singers who basically endorse drinking.

So, there's a difference between groups like PE or NWA that rapped about serious problems and rappers that basically glorifyied a gangster lifestyle.

I knew it was Phil Mushnick before opening the link. I remember some of his rants against pro wrestling from back in the day.

And between those groups and the Sugar Hill Gang singing about soggy macaroni, mushed peas, and chicken that tastes like wood, so bad that you had to wash it down with Kaopectate.

There's this rapper I used to like listening to all the time, and I think my dad liked him too. He's dead--I guess from a drive-by. He used to rap all the time about banging other men's wives. Man this dude was such a gangsta! I can't remember his name, but here's a picture:

I hate to defend country music but comparing what popular rap music glorifies and what country music glorifies is idiotic.

Country music used to glorify murder, and so did blues. Everything seemed fine to me then. Why did white-dominated country deviate from that and rap (which you could say functions culturally similarly to the way blues functioned 50-80 years ago) not only stayed with it but did it more loudly? Sounds like a topic I'd like to be lectured on.

s an aside, the NBA is what it is and is not what it is not. A large majority of NBA players (probably greater than 80%) reflect exactly the same image and lifestyle as Jay Z. Let them be who they are going to be and quit worrying about it.

the thug image is gone from the NBA and Jay-z is not a thug so this writer is reaching big time

Is this a sustainable business model in modern America. Probably so, as suprising as that might be to some.

I'd bet on Jay-Z any day. Dude is the epitome of turning 15 cents into a dollar. He's a great marketer and I'm sure the Nets will see huge profits in the coming years. With a change like this(even if it's just changing a team name to a place a few miles away): (Florida to Miami Marlins was similar in their strategies)... you still need to present an overall change. Uniforms, marketing strategies, all of that. NYC is hungry for a decent B-ball team. Look how apeshit they were going over the Knicks when they went on that run back in February. I know it may sound Cray now, but they might steal a lot of Knicks fans to back Brooklyn, especially some urban types, and I seriously doubt they lose any Jersey fans.

this guy made good points, in the latter paragraph, but it was stupid how he got there in the first place. Making a lot of assumptions that were pretty stereotypical if not racist.

anyway, I think Jay-Z will make a great owner and with it some great decisions. This NY Post Columnist wanted to state those views and I think he might have found a better circumstance to use that soapbox besides a team changing their colors to black and white. He should have picked a way better battle to get to that point he wanted to make/
