It’s not just athletes - basically everything and everyone associated with OSU emphasizes “The”.

And if it is the school's whole name, why isn't their website tosu.edu, not osu.edu? You know, since that is the while name?

No one made a big deal about it until we copyrighted the name to include "The" and everyone started clowning us.
We leaned into it. Then people started creating merchandise with it on it and the University went back to court trying to expand the copyright.

In 1997, you had to type out a long tailed url. Most sites made the URL as short as possible to alleviate that. You are now critiquing decisions from the beginning of the internet, aka "grasping at straws"
