Legit forgot about it until someone texted in a group text earlier saying something to the effect of “dang national title game is tomorrow night right?”
I missed half the playoff games and was like "oh shite I forgot there was a game tonight" in our group texts.

This and it's two teams from the same area of the country that nobody outside of their fanbases really cares about watching all that much.
Now SEC fans know how the rest of the country has felt

College football should end on New Year's Day.
On that same token, the Super Bowl should be in January…

I think that poster thinks Auburn is playing TAMU for the National Title....living in a bubble ruins your ability to understand the greater landscape.

Count me in that number. Loathe them both. Have to pull for the Suckeyes, bc any LEU fans should carry an intense hatred for the Leprechauns. Never forget 1969.

Gets lost with the NFL playoffs
It’s probably already been said but the solution is moving everything up a week. Semis on NYD and the natty before the NFL playoffs start.
Worst case, you play it the night after the wild card round.

They've had like 10-14 days between each game
Really deflates the hype

No shite, they have the largest fanbase in college football due to most Catholics rooting for them, not sure what hell that has to do with my comment that outside of the two fan bases not a ton of folks will be super interested in the game though. Notre Dame only had one game the entire season in the top 50 of watched games, and that was their first game against A&M when they were on during primetime and were the only decent game on TV.
They are also one of the top 5-10 least liked fanbases in the country, as is OSU. Most people have nobody to root for in this matchup. And watching Notre Dame's offense this year is like watching paint dry (I got to watch enough terrible offense watching Auburn play this year).
Maybe it'll surprising get good ratings, but I don't really know anyone talking about the game at all too much.

Used to be, you'd finish college in early December, then have the bowls and stuff around New Years.
About that same time, the NFL regular season wrapped up, so there might be 1-2 games you cared about (your team, and maybe a seeding-related game).
So "football" fans could focus on the big bowls, and then move on to the NFL playoffs after CFB wrapped up.
Now it's all piled together. Football had been very careful over the years to keep the two separate, so you didn't have to choose one over the other. The timeframes are blurred now, and I don't think CFB is going to like the outcome.

Comical. OSU and ND draws the eyes. Get over it SEC fanboy.

Y'all need to stop.
Your cope is silly & pathetic.
Enjoy the game, It's frigging Ohio State vs Notre Dame for all the marbles.
You're laughably insecure. Be excited your team is in the championship, you don't need the rest of us to give a shite.

You know what's withering in this thread, the long-held belief and propaganda that SEC fans are the most passionate about CFB, "it just means more".
Well, if their team isn't in it, they tune out...just fans of teams, not the touted great general fans of the sport....who are apparently clueless about Notre Dames appeal.... Call NBC and set them straight.

Real Convenient cuz LSU was there.

Yep. It was nice when bowl season built up the excitement, from lesser bowls to bigger bowls to the prestigious BCS/NY6 games. Then cap it off a few days later with the national title game. Now you basically go 3 weeks with only the 2 semi-final games in that span and the hype just doesn’t feel the same.

They should have played this past Friday.
