The Cubs and Giants face off tonight in Game 4 of the NLDS sponsored by Ambien. Cubs lead the series 2-1. Giants won a marathon last night 6-5, with a walk-off hit in the 13th. John Lackey (11-8, 3.35) gets the ball tonight against lefty Matt Moore (13-12, 4.08). Go Cubs Go.

Won't actively root for them in game thread cause that's annoying but I guess if I had to choose I'd like SFG to win tonight for the sole purpose of having a game 5. The 2 sweeps in the AL are a major let down for having baseball to watch every day
Best of luck to both teams, last night was awesome

Rizzo gets his shite together tonight.

Rizzo needs to start hitting but Maddon kinda screwed up some pitching moves last night. It would be tempting to move Rizzo up to bat 2nd and maybe he could see some better pitches with KB hitting behind him.

Are any of you Cubs fans questioning the decision to bring in Chapman for 6 outs? Maddon was completely out-maneuvered by Bochy last night in bullpen management. Will Chapman be available tonight?

I was fine with it. Try and win it with your best guy. Take the shot, and if it doesn't work pull him so you don't burn him out.
Basically the opposite of what Baltimore did.

It was the best move, and not necessarily meaning he would have to pitch the 9th.
In THAT situation, I am really glad Maddon brought in his best pitcher. He didn't get the results he needed, but I think it was the smart thing to do.
Rondon should have taken care of the 8th better. Can't f around with two runners on in a tight game.
He will be fine for tonight, if needed.

I think he went to Chapman too quick, but that's just me. Rondon didn't exactly help with the decision either.

Moore can be erratic. they need to work him hard. Get some guys on via walk and get the carousel going. Tonight will be the night

Yep. I feel like Moore will be either really good, or he will exit early

Pence
then
Gillaspie - lefty
Crawford - lefty
Panik - lefty
Blanco - lefty
In theory, that's 4 of your outs. Chapman permitting .122 BAvg and .393 OPS against in his career to left handed hitter

Yup. Same approach as with MadBum last night. He will be gone after 4 and we will smoke the bullpen.
Can't let off the gas tonight.

cant forget Maddon and Zobrist know Moore pretty well; i imagine they formulate a nice gameplan to get to him early.

On Matt Moore: "When he gets behind in the count, he relies almost exclusively on his fastball and that's when he gets pounded (.330/.493/.640)."
quote:
"Moore actually has a league-average first-pitch strike percentage; his problem area is when he's behind 1-0, he ranked 64th out of 74 qualified starters in strike percentage, so he ends up falling behind 2-0 too often"
