Yes. The coaches are typically bought out, giving the school resources to move forward.

It would be very frustrating to recruit a guy for a couple years, have a great freshman season and then bam off to Michigan State to be a backup.

It works both ways. Rocky Lombardi started games at QB for Michigan State and started 6 games in 2020. He then announced he was transferring to NIU and started 13 games in 2021.

The system allows for entire coaching staffs and players to be bought wholesale.

Take Marshall 2024. Won SBC conference. Coach and players leave immediately after conference championship game. Marshall has to cancel their bowl trip.

Imagine Texas Tech buying an SEC team, that would probably be the day we see immediate change.

I can see a 1 transfer with a no sit rule but after that (there could/should be some exceptions) the player would have to sit.

Would be better than what we have now. Still sucks for the G6 program that recruits a kid who plays well as a freshman, but then the coach can't depend on him being a cornerstone for the team because some trial lawyer at a P4 will eventually wave the bag of cash in front of him.

Though maybe knowing he can only get one no-sit transfer might make the kid at least be a bit more selective in regards to leaving.

That's probably what it's going to take.

No one's going to give a shite about Texas Tech raiding several UTSAs, but if they raid and deplete A&M or UT-Austin, then all hell might break loose.

And you would have one of the weakest teams in NCAA and be fired before the 4 year contract is up you had the freshman class sign.lol

It makes it real hard to rebuild or build up a program.

You finally get that good recruiting class. Develop a couple of guys into stars, working on the next class so you can now have a real team. Then those stars leave. You'r back to square 1.

Suppose all this was prevalent in the 90's. Think LSU could have competed back then when Colorado, FSU, Notre Dame, and others were robbing our state?

What did he say about coaches breaking contracts and moving to something with more pay?

They need to look into some type of posting/transfer system similar to soccer in Europe.. if you want to sit out a year then no transfer fee but immediate eligibility will cost the school and/or player.

Exactly. You think he would have turned down seven figures when he was in college? Nope.

But this no sit transfer portal makes it impossible for a coach like him to build real consistency in a roster.

Yup. I feel like the days of deep Cinderella runs during March madness and mid majors making noise in the CFB National championship hunt are long gone.

It’s so disingenuous to act like tuition, fees, etc. isn’t enough compensation for something you chose to do knowing full well what the rules are. Also ignores that just those things come with the opportunity of a lifetime.

If i could have played football and in exchange to be able to pay for all of my college in return?

I had TOPS, grants, and scholarship and lost is what I got really sick and had to sit out a year through zero fault of my own.

I would have loved to have school paid for while I got to play a game.

Why? Why would you hold a guy who maybe was a late bloomer from competing at the highest level?
