I remember when the Tom Wolfe novel "A Man in Full" had a scenario where having built a office tower in Cherokee County was just a complete disaster.

The problem was that the tower was north of Canton, it would still be a disaster.

teams are moving back to the suburbs because fans don’t want to go to downtown shite holes to watch games anymore.

To be fair, State Farm in Downtown Atlanta is a gorgeous facility.

Roswell, Sandy Springs or Dunwoody would be much better and convenient than Alpharetta.

The property they are putting the arena at is located directly off of GA.400 and is a straight shot to both downtown Atlanta and Forsyth County and Dawsonville.

It's a prime location

Coyotes are likely getting a new arena in Tempe. I thought the league was done with expansion?

And why not pray tell?

Rangers, Black Hawks and even Stars fans would turn out.
Just like Falcons games.
But you are a Steelers fan so you likely don’t notice.

Like I've said above, attendance was never the issue here, it was the Atlanta Spirit being shitty owners.

There was a very loyal, small fanbase here that supported the Thrashers to the end. And there are a lot of hockey fans here, mostly on the North Side.

I think they ripped out the ability to host NHL hockey with the renovation.

I believe so.

Putting the new team(hopefully it's the Thrashers again)on the North Side is the absolute right move.

NHL returning to Atlanta, also Houston as well(?) by Floyd DawgThe interesting part to me is WHERE they will be playing. Talking about tearing down North Point Mall in Alpharetta (which I believe is happening anyway) and building the arena there. That would be in an area full of potential season ticket holders

I would be one

The original six teams and Canadian teams will do that in places like Florida, California or Vegas and treat it like as a vacation in warm weather. It won't be as big a problem in Atlanta.

You have to build a fanbase anyways. That will start with the transplants who will root for the Thrashers (or whatever they are called) except when the Thrashers play their original favorite team.
