Expand MARTA to Alpharetta and while we’re at it Cobb as well. Atlanta is too big and spread out to not have a solid subway system

Not trying ruin this thread, Marta should expand to north point, Gwinnett, and the battery for sure, but it needs to be expanded in the city limits where the users live. The people who want it live ITP. Expanding along the current lines outside wouldn’t generate any revenue.

I’m not saying to Cumming, but if we’re getting the Thrashers back and they’re going to be in Alpharetta it makes sense to have have them most northern stop be there. Also 285 alone should be reason enough for MARTA expansion to Cobb

I highly doubt the NHL wants to expand past the current 32 number.

Been some word they might go to 34 to make up for covid losses. NHL took it worse than most leagues. Horrible idea I know.

They tried expanding the airport in Paulding County about 35 NW of the city into a viable 2nd airport but the rednecks up there wanted nothing to do w/it.

I can't argue this.

Another tragedy that I haven't seen mentioned, or maybe I missed it, was the Heatly/Snyder accident. The trajectory of the team would have been completely different earlier had that not happened

Yep.

That whole thing was a damn tragedy.

Sure but the Braves are about a 15 minute drive from midtown and just outside the perimeter.

There's no doubt a hockey team needs to be closer to their fan base but Alpharetta is somewhat of a stretch.

Alpharetta is the same distance from Midtown and just a little further OTP. It's not the stretch you think it is.

Now Cumming OTOH....

Cobb voters would still have to approve any expansion and the demos there still aren't in favor of it.

Now Gwinnett OTOH....

If by rednecks you mean Delta Airljnes you are right.
Southwest wanted to use Charlie Brown airport for their Atlanta base like they did with Love Field, Midway and Hobby but Delta shut it down, likely with payoffs to the city and county government.
Marta isn’t going to expand. The highway system will forever be total shite because city and county government is corrupt and the land to expand is now way too expensive.

Do what? If by midtown you mean Sandy Springs you might be right and 400 is obviously a parking lot during rush hour.

You know you could always move if you dislike living in Atlanta that much.

As for MARTA, expanding is solely on the voters of Cobb & Gwinnett. If they want it, it'll expand. And I can see the latter before the former.

It's already set to expand into Clayton.

Sandy Springs and Alpharetta border one another as it is so yes I stand by my statement. It may be a 5-10 min. difference in good traffic but that is neglagable.

I would rather have an NBA team, but honestly I'd be disappointed to lose out to Houston and ATL on hockey franchises. (Not a shot at those cities for the record...I just want a third Big 4 team in KC)

No they don't.

I grew up in Sandy Springs and it boarders Roswell to the north (Chattahoochee is pretty much the line)

BTW I liked up the mileage from the 10th Street to Truist (11 miles) and 10th Street to Alpharetta city limits (25+ miles) not even close.

It is further, but I’m almost certain that Alpharetta would be dead center of the season ticket holders. It certainly was for the Braves when they had the map on the front of the AJC.

It almost won in Gwinnett last referendum, so next I bet it will. They said the one line expansion to Norcross would take until 2030, that just seems unacceptable to me.

It likely would be. The lion's share of Thrashers fans were all in Alpha, Roswell, John's Creek, Cumming, and Marietta. Some pockets of N Gwinnett, but yeah, an arena at North Point would be pretty much perfect for the NHL demographic
