Carlson has the shot to blast from the point. That kid is a beast in the making and the Caps don't need to be blown up. They just need to get rid of 3 players and the coach. They've lost 2 series in which they had a 2 game lead under this dumbass.

This is the type of attitude that will have them getting bounced out again next year. Ovie even said himself (sarcastically) after Game 6 that it seems like they have some out of the world goalie performance every year in the playoffs (New York, Philadelphia, now Montreal). The simple fact is that they don't adjust to playoff hockey well. Halak played great, but you can't reduce the whole thing to him; not in light of Washington's past 7 game series. This is a consistent pattern with them in the playoffs. You can chalk up one or two games to the goaltender, but not a whole series. Halak can be scored on (as the Caps showed early in the series); this is a problem with the Caps moreso than Halak being the second coming of Patrick Roy. And if Halak is that good, then why predict a sweep in the next round? He just so happened to get red hot against the Caps, but will revert back to normal status magically in the next series? I think not. They need to either look at a coaching change or make a few major player changes (such as Semin and Green) IMO, but it's fine with me if they make no major changes b/c that'll help the Pens' cause.

I agree Boudreau needs to go. But making wholesale roster changes is not a good idea. I don't think Boudreau made any adjustments in the series or the game, and he was quick to bench Theodore, and that was the only bullet in his gun.

Panicking about Green would be a bad, bad idea. He is what he is, and bad coaches focus on what he can't do (play solid D) instead of what he can (score a ton). Just find a good partner for him. Think how the Flames partnered Phaneuf with Regher. I do think the team really missed Poti tonight.

I do think a trade for an elite goalie might be an order. But I think the NHL is moving towards a more open game (yes, even in the playoffs) and constructing your roster to be a bunch of plodders is bad. The Hawks, Sharks, Canucks, and Penguins (the teams 2nd-5th in scoring) all advanced.

Look at how the top 6 in GA fared:
The Devils lost.
The Bruins won, but were facing another top defense in the Sabres, who obviously did not advance.
The Coyotes lost, although in 7.
The Hawks advanced, but they are an offensive juggernaut.
And the Flames missed the playoffs.

The league is moving towards offense. You might not need SO much offense, but the total failure of the power play was a big deal.

The Caps have ALWAYS run into the hot goalie in the playoffs. It's just their luck and being.

Green IS a no show in the playoffs and was pretty much responsible for both goals tonight. Idon't even know what his +/- was for this series but it has to be among the worst. He just isn't a gamer when it counts. I'm only calling for 3 players to hit the road.

While I agree there is "playoff hockey", the idea that a team should blow up an offensive juggernaut because it can't win is short-sighted. The NHL is moving towards offense, and the more defensive teams are falling further and further behind. The Caps just got really, really unlucky this year. It happens.

fire the coach? Sure. Look for an elite goalie? Yeah, if the price is right. But blowing up the team is a bad, bad idea.

Green was a +1. Which is still unacceptable given that Poti was +9

Since the next round starts tomorrow night, it's time to get 2nd round predictions in. I'm going with three lower seeds: Flyers over Bruins, Pens over Habs, Wings over Sharks, and Canucks over Hawks. Although they're a distant second to the Pens, I pull for Chicago in the West so I hope I'm wrong about that one. And I want the Red Wings gone asap, but I don't see them losing to the Sharks. The Flyers were extremely impressive in the first round and Boston was dominated 5 on 5 against the Sabres (plus that was a physical series). Savard should help, but I'm not sure they'll be able to find enough offense to win another series. The Pens should be able to take care of the Habs in 5 or 6, but you never know. I'm certainly not taking them lightly as a fan and hopefully they won't do so either. The Habs have no pressure on them and have to be going in with a ton of confidence. I don't think it's going to be enough to overcome the experience/talent/home ice of the Pens though.

East: Bruins-Habs (hey, at this point, anything is possible)
West: Wings-Hawks (Hawks got the scare they needed to make it to the cup finals. Luongo scares me.)

All "Original Six" conference finals!

Pens and Flyers
Hawks and Wings

Hawks are the best team in hockey, would love to see them win it all.
