That’s crazy talk. MMA is the most pure sport in the world

Love MMA for the same reason.

That game last night meant nothing and you could feel the energy in the building through the tv. I’ve never been to a sporting event that had the intensity of a playoff hockey game, but admittedly never been to a UFC event.

Issue is NBA players are the best athletes in the world (I don’t think players in the other major leagues dispute this).

Ehhhh.. I don't know about that.

McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, and the Tkachuks could play a basketball game that would be entertaining to watch.

Lebron, KD, Steph, Luka, and whomever else would look ridiculous playing a game of even street hockey. And you still haven't put anyone in net.

The athletic requirements to play hockey are insane. Of the major sports, it's the most difficult to play at a high level, and I'm not sure it's close. The speed and precision that shooters have is unreal. Even just watching the flex in the stick when a Brady Tkachuk shoots is something that a basketball player could quite literally never achieve.

I’ve never seen the argument where the NBA has the best athletes. Most physically gifted? Sure. I would rate them last in terms of best athletes in the 4 major sports.

Playoff hockey destroys NBA playoffs as well

I mean, being the most physically gifted is 95% of being the best athlete.

The NBA is probably the only major sport where you could have relatively little skill, but still be successful if you can just out-athlete everyone else on the court.

The one thing I love about hockey is they haven’t messed up and tried to “fix” it. All other major sports have all done something to do this. Hockey has been the same for decades.

Not necessarily to you, but when I lived in Atlanta in late 2000s, I played in a beer league game that was high-competition. I was a beer league goalie, and got to play several divisions above my ability due to call outs.

Played against guys who had played in college, and a handful of NHLers in the area that were literally not trying. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was in fear of my safety on some of their shots, and they were not even putting forth 50% effort. They were just dicking around in the sunmertime.

Insane skill, even from guys who were known as enforcers. Eric Boulton and Chris Thorburn were two guys I played with, and those dudes were paid to hit and fight. Against me, they were world-class snipers.

NBA guards are definitely up there as far as best athletes. You lose our jewels over 6’4 or 6’5 receivers and every single one of those guys are that big. Russell Westbrook is one of the most incredible athletes I’ve ever seen, how he’s that big and moves like that is insane

We have goaltenders that are 6'4 and 6'5 now. Connor Hellebuyck is 6'4, and moves in a way that bodies aren't supposed to move.

There's something like 34 NHL players who are taller than 6'4, including defenseman like Hedman and Brent Burns.

I get that NBA is a height fest. But you don't have short dudes playing hockey all that much. Martin St Louis, Patrick Kane, and Theo Fleury were the last of the sub-six footers.

So could Dustin Johnson, koepka, Spieth, and Gary woodland

While nba players would look like shite playing golf

Of course not.

We haven't factored non-natural movement (skating) and hitting into anything yet.

I stand by my original statement. Hockey players are better athletes than basketball players.

The NHL created a great event but stepping back, 2025 NHL ratings have been dreadful. I am glad they got everyone excited but the sport has big problems

Take off their skates and they’re not world class athletes

I’m not diminishing the athletism of hockey players at all, they’re insane. The amount of skill and toughness it takes to play at that level in incredible.

But when you combine the size, speed, length, and ability to move of some of these NBA guards, I’m convinced they’d be elite at whatever sport they wanted if they put the time and effort in. The mental would be the only thing to hold them back, you have to have a special kind of makeup for football or hockey, but physically I think they could dominate.

There’s still a couple of diminutive fellas. Watching Logan Stankhoven play for the Stars is comical. He’s listed at 5’8 but there’s no way he’s that tall. He legit looks like a kid out there, but his skill is so good.

The NBA has flown the coop since Kobe retired. If they would've not brought in politics into it, the ratings would still be good. Rest assured, David Stern wouldn't put up with this woke bullshite. Plus the game is nothing more than pick up basketball, jacking up 50 3's a game.

This coupled with the soft coddled lives star basketball players live just makes it tough to watch in good conscience.

NBA players are by far the highest paid and coddled athletes there are and they have awful entitled attitudes. Then you watch the games and the slow uninspired play...

The NBA needs to embrace heroes/villains, pettiness, feuds etc. Stuff like that drives interest. The current crop of players truly come off as if they don’t give a shite. There is no more hatred between players or teams. They just care about their stats and money.
