So it’s what- Avs need 3 points in final 7 games? Home ice baby.
It’s been a fun season.
Ok-2 points because they have the tie breaker. I'm guessing they rest some guys down the stretch and wrap up the two points and coast. All about staying healthy now.

My Ducks have been imploding the last few games. Lackluster play + mounting injuries

Yeah they are losing at the wrong time.
The pacific is wide open again - Anaheim and Edmonton at 87 points and Vegas at 86
Nobody still wants the wild card spot in the east (besides Boston who are pretty much locked in now) - but look out! Washington is coming on strong only 1 point behind in the WC and 2 points behind in the metro.

Islanders fire Patrick Roy

…and hire Pete DeBoer
Pretty crazy

Penguins win their 40th game of the season, almost assuredly hitting 100 points on the season after being projected as the 3rd worst team in the league preseason. Helluva job from Dan Muse.
Meanwhile Mike Sullivan and the Rangers last place in the conference.

His contract is for the rest of the season plus 3 years. I’m not sure I understand what the Islanders are doing here.

Don't care, won Gold

Perfect scenario, win gold in spite of him and then let him return to the Rags and continue to be the worst coach in the league.

Lil Protas called up. On a line with big Pro and Wilson

Of all the NHL retread coaches, DeBoer I understand the absolute least.
What is it that people see in this guy? His Panthers teams were atrocious, and the Devils and Stars underachieved with him, as well. How does this guy keep getting jobs?

Watching the Stars/Wild ...has been quite entertaining, Dallas down at the moment 3 to 2.
The officiating has been herky jerky --- the flow of the contest has been off and seems this crew to be the culprit
Sure hope the Stars will do their time during the regular season and not have this outfit going forward ---- amateurish is what I am trying to convey
Not blaming the crew for the score - Wild are playing well.

John Carlson waited 17 years to record his first career hat trick in Anaheim

Edmonton leading the Pacific Division with 90 points is wild. In ANY other division they'd be 16 points behind.
Also, Seattle is at 77 points and still hasn't been officially eliminated. There are teams in the East with more points that were eliminated over a week ago.

That shite division is going to have a team in the WCF, probably the Oilers. It's causing everyone to revisit the (correct) discussion about seeing 1-8 but Bettman won't have it.
I'm thinking the Pacific goes Oilers, Vegas, Ducks, and then Kings getting the WC2. Nashville close second.
East looking pretty set other than seeding now - Boston and Ottawa will likely get the WCs with Metro 3 between Philly and Islanders. Ottawa with an insane recent run having almost no healthy defenders.

The West is so shitty that Winnipeg got back in the race. On January 8th they were literally the worst team in the NHL in the standings.

...and just like that every spot in the East except for Metro 3 is clinched
Detroit had a 3-2 lead on NJ in the third, lost the lead the game and are now eliminated
Between Flyers (92pts 3 games left), Caps and Islanders (91pts 2 games left) and Blue Jackets (90pts 3 games left and currently playing). 4 teams, 1 spot
Nashville wins to put pressure on LA, Dallas clinches home ice over Minnesota for round 1
Nothing is settled in Pacific. Technically still a chance LA overtakes Vegas or Anaheim for the one of the divisional slots.

I'm wondering how all of these dogfights for playoff positions are going to affect the playoffs themselves. Does being in a month long battle with half a dozen other teams make the wild card teams that much more grittier and battle tested or does it make them mentally and emotionally exhausted? You have Colorado being the cream of the crop in the league for the entire year and their reward could be a first round match up with Nashville who may be the hottest team in the league for the last month.
