Could Chris Berman be the latest longtime ESPN personality to jump ship?

The Big Lead reported Monday that Berman is being "heavily pursued" by NFL Network. According to the report, it is "[not] a sure thing" that Berman will remain with ESPN, where he has been an anchor for over 30 years.

Berman's contract with ESPN expires in May.

Should Berman leave ESPN, he would be just the latest high-profile personality to leave the network. Peter Gammons left ESPN for MLB Network and NESN late last year, Dan Patrick left for Sports Illustrated and NBC in '07, and Al Michaels -- after signing an 8-year deal to call Monday Night Football games on ESPN -- left for NBC in '06.

I wish something else would target him. I probably shouldn't say what.

Why the frick is this news? Who cares about Chris Berman's contract?

Does anybody really watch ESPN or NFL Network for the "personalities"?

I bet the producers/directors at the NFL Network would be thrilled to work with him.

Really? You haven't noticed how many people dislike his shtick? Watching him is kind of unavoidable when he's the host of every major NFL program on ESPN.

So NFLN wouldn't shell out cash for one of the best source men in the biz (Schefter), but they will for Berman?

I doubt that happens, I heard that Berman owned a large portion of ESPN in shares.

A road-flattened skunk would be an upgrade.

So from a network I try not to watch to a network I successfully don't watch. I'm ok with this.

Well if Berman owns those shares no reason he can't take a huge payday from NFLN and keep his shares.

Why doesn't NFLN try to develop their own talent. All they get are espn castaways (eisen, irvin, deion, etc) Their on-air talent sucks.

I like Eisen but I don't understand why networks recycle bad analysts like Sanders and Irvin (who's now gone anyway).

To be fair, I don't understand why networks hire most of the analysts out there today in the first place. Particularly former players who can barely enunciate enough words to make one complete sentence, let alone bring up an argument or point that 99% of football fans figured out on their own days in advance.
