Agree that they need to improve but how would they work full time? It's not like baseball with games every night. They can't hone their craft during the week.

Would really need to create a NFL developmental league like the NBA has. Just don't see that happening though. Would allow officials to call games and get training and reviewed during the week.

If the coaches and players would unite for a strike until they are hired full-time, I would support that and I think ratings would improve.

Yep.

We have decades of film for them to use. They could play short clips of various scenarios and make a practical exam.

Rex Ryan is going to go off on these guys in his post game press conference.

And the NFL will end up fining him an obscene amount, even though he has every right to be pissed.

NO, the NFL needs to stop being tight asses and pay these guys to only have to be NFL refs.

Only sport, where officials have a 1st job, and officiating is their 2nd job.

You make them fulltime, and they can get better group of candidates, and during offseason, they do video and train, while doing training in NFL camps.

None of these refs HAVE to have other jobs. They're paid $250,000-500,000 a year to work less than 25 days per year. The league can't ban them from taking side jobs though. Blame the referees union that there is basically no recourse for shitty refs. They should be able to be called out and suspended like anybody else.

Or maybe have squads that exist just to give refs practice?

Not the same as seeing a play live from a vantage point on the field.

I was a little off. Average salary is $180,000 currently and it rises about $7,000 per year. Not a bad payday for 25 days per year. Plus they get bonuses for working playoff games

The only reason these guys have other jobs is because you have to find something else to do the other 340 days of the year when you're not working.

I am still confused as to why he couldn't come back in even though he was injured on a play that never happened.

I was also confused. If there way no actual play, why did he have to come out.
