No. I wish College would change to this rule.

It is a stupid penalty with it only being a 15 yard penalty. Defensive backs are taught if they get beat deep it is better to interfere and get a 15 yard penalty then it is to give up a big gain or get beat for a touchdown.

Why not differentiate between flagrant and non-flagrant?

NF (sorry) -- 10 yds

F -- spot of infraction

I have always wanted this, but keep non-flagrant at 15 yards and an automatic first down. Of course, then it becomes of a judgment call. Should flagrancy be challenged?

IMHo the way the officials call it is the problem. dont even think about letting a big name receiver get up and call for the flag cause you know the official will throw it.

Yes. Although that would hurt all those 80 yard throws we see every week.

...that's not the point. The defense should not benefit by committing a penalty, that is what the spot foul helps to ensure.

I get what you're saying, but what is fair about a 50+yard penalty on a pass that is arguable catchable and the contact is incidental? The offense shouldn't be rewards just for chucking it deep and praying their guy trips and gets the call.

Then that is a bad call, and you shouldn't change the rules because the officiating is poor. The officiating needs to improve.

When would a player spike the ball in live play?

I've long been a fan of this. You would definitely end up with a much higher percentage of non-flagrant.

Did not read the entire thread so sorry if I'm repeating. I hear the "they'll just tackle receivers" argument when this comes up but college has the rule and you never see this done in college. What you see ALOT in the pros is bullshite PI calls that gives a team a ridiculous amount of yards. And by the way 15 and an automatic first is a stiff penalty.

I actually see what I would deem as "flagrant" PI's in college football a good bit.
