5 years from now not one of us will be watching the NFL

won't exist as we once knew it and it will probably turn those of us who "knew" it back when it was "real" and we'll find something else to do

shite I'm already hitting that stage. Sad but the game of professional football as we knew it is dead

Terrible idea. Will never happen.

You would start seeing scores in the 100s and the NFL would effectivly become the Areana league.

Then it would just take someone waiting teo years of that garbage and then open up a new football league that doesn have all these ritarded arse rules, and you have a goldmine

That's not true.

Not saying I like this idea, but the scores and game wouldn't change much, except for a higher probability of keeping the ball when you're behind.

As conservative as coaches are now (punting on 4th and), they would NEVER go for it on 4th and 15 from their own 30 without necessity. They would choose to punt.

I feel like the NFL is actively trying to find the answer to.

"What can we do to actually make people stop watching football"

I'm all for player safety, and ensuring that head injuries and other serious bodily injuries are kept to a minimum.

The penalties, fines, and ejections can be justified, albeit, not without controversy, but removing an essential part of the game is the most idiotic proposal I've ever heard.

Instead of a kickoff, the team that scored would then take the ball on its own 30-yard line in, essentially, a 4th-and-15 situation

What kind of bush-league nonsense is this?

Is this for real?

It would not be that plan - that's a little too far fetched. Eventually it will be the NFFL - National Flag Football League

A team down multiple scores late now has a much better chance of keeping the ball than they did recovering an onside kick.

Historically the odds of recovering an onside kick is the same as converting 4th and 15. Not saying I agree with it, but that's why 4th and 15 was chosen.

I think I speak for everyone when I say I love the fact that they moved the KO up 5 yards. I mean who doesn't love 99% of kickoffs ending in a touchback. This is especially rewarding for the fans after a score.

I mean who doesn't love a 3 minute break, touchback, 3 minute break?

I agree to an extent...but scores will increase a little on average.

If the average punt goes 45 yards, you're going to have guys fielding these things around their own 25. With an average punt return of 10 yards you'll have teams staring at their own 35 most of the time, instead of the 20 after a touchback.

But that's beside the point, why even give the scoring team the option? It makes no sense.

except on a 4th and 15 I can chuck the ball up and hope for a defensive penalty. If I chuck an onside kick up, it is gonna be fair caught and I can't do shite about it.

Make no mistake, it will trickle down to the college and high school level as well. Really, it already has (see, the new kickoff location; can't "participate" if helmet comes off and miss the next play, etc.)

I get that safety has to be addressed. In reality, this is moreso try to avoid the greater number of lawsuits that will be coming against the NFL from former players. (Former players who evidently had no idea when they signed up to play in the NFL that they were going to be playing a violent game)

One of biggest culprits is the absolute abhorrent talkling at all levels of football. Basically today's defenders simply just run and dive head-first at a ball carrier's ankles or head. The could takle just as well with no arms as they do now with two.
