Basically the same deal Jackobi got with a little more guaranteed. I think they are desperate to get faster on offense and that probably the deciding factor between him and retaining Jackobi

I heard Chris Canty say today that if a player gets a contract with guaranteed money, the team has to put that money in an escrow account so its available. Has anyone else ever heard this?

I don't know if it's a specialized account for each player or just a general fund that covers everyone on the roster. So if you sign Jackson and there is 160M guaranteed, the team has to put 160M in an account that day. He said that is a big reason why some teams are skittish. Lots of money to set aside at one time..

Looks like Cowboys moving on from Zeke LINK
quote:

FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas Cowboys will release Ezekiel Elliott, making the running back a free agent, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Elliott was set to count $16.7 million against the salary cap with a $10.9 million non-guaranteed base salary. Elliott will be designated a post-June 1 cut, per sources, which means the club will save nearly $11 million against the 2023 cap, but he will count $4.9 million against the 2024 cap. They will not get the cap credit until June 1.

Yeah, a lot of this was talked about when the raiders were trading Khalil Mack and there were reports that Davis either didn’t want to or didn’t have the ability to put the GTD money in escrow due to being one of the more cash poor owners at the time

Every team makes something like 350 mil before ever selling a ticket, concession, merch, or playing a game. There is no actual concern by the owners, it’s just an excuse to not guarentee the money.

Only reason it was ever a thing was to make sure the league had the money to cover player salaries, now that it’s a multibillion dollar corporation, that’s not really much of a concern anymore; the league isn’t going belly up out of nowhere

The escrow account is a rolling one year requirement. All guaranteed money a team owes each season has to be put into an escrow account.

For instance:
The Browns don’t have to stash Deshaun Watson’s $230 million guaranteed money into an account for 5 years. However, they do have to put whatever he’s owed in 2023 into an account right now, plus any all other guaranteed money they owe for the other players on their roster.

*And that requirement does occasionally cause problems for family owned teams without other sources of income such as the Chargers, Cardinals, and Raiders.

@toddarcher
The Cowboys have restructured the contract of DE DeMarcus Lawrence, opening up $8.89 million in room, per sources. He is the fourth player they have restructured in the last two weeks Dak Prescott, Zack Martin and Michael Gallup, freeing up nearly $45 million in cap space.

Something big is coming. This isn’t the fricking browns, cowboys don’t just clear cap because merchandise sales are down

Sources: Four-time Pro Bowl tackle and Super Bowl champ Orlando Brown Jr. is finalizing a four-year, $64.092 million front-loaded deal with the #Bengals that includes an over $31M signing bonus — largest ever for an o-lineman.

Brown’s agent, Michael Portner, confirmed the deal.

Does this move Collins or Williams to guard for Cincy?

La’El likely won’t be healthy when the 2023 season starts. I’m not even sure they don’t cut him. He started slowly, but was playing pretty well the 4-5 games leading up to when he got injured. But I’m not sure if the Bengals want to pay for him when he may not come back full speed.

Seems like a stretch, but would love to have the trio of Justin Simmons, Patrick Surtain II and CJ Gardner Johnson in the secondary.

Williams will move to RT.

Collins is coming off a significant injury and will be out to start the year. He’s a cut candidate. Although I think the majority of His contract is essentially only paid if he’s healthy so there’s a chance bengals keep him for OL depth later in the season. Backup tackle who can also play guard would be valuable.

Correct, Williams is moving to RT. Our OL will be

LT Brown Jr
LG Volson
C Karras
RG Cappa
RT Williams

Wish Collins was healthy

Excuse me what the frick?

If almost half the money is paid via signing bonus, and it's "front-loaded", then what's his base/roster combination worth this year? $25M?

Looks like Orlando came significantly down from his demands once free agency rates were set for tackles. Good for him and Cinci, but he could of had a bigger payday when the Chiefs offered him a much better contract last year. He basically got RT money which is where he should play, he lacks the athleticism to play LT, and yes, I know about his pro bowls.
