There are hardly any college football teams that stand during the national anthem. They all stay in the locker room. Hell, NFL teams didn't even stand for the national anthem until 2009. It's not standard practice by any means for football teams to be on the field while the national anthem is being played.

You don't get to protest one thing while disrespecting another thing. You want to protest go ahead, but it looks bad when you're doing this way.

I think the point there was that half the stadium is eating nachos and barfing up a case of natty light in the pissers whenever the anthem is playing in TS

That's the issue with the whole deal, really. I disagree with the anti-police protest (think it's factually disingenuous), but the optics of players choosing to do it during the anthem comes off as brazenly unAmerican/unpatriotic to a customer base that tends to lean more patriotic in general.

No matter what the protest was about, it wasn't going to go over well because of those optics.

Been my feelings from the very beginning.

ETA: However, it is pretty funny watching the fallout. TV networks blew it out of proportion, now they're losing money in advertising. Self-inflicted wound.

And the ones who are paying attention see no issue with replacing "home of the brave" with "home of the Tigers."

The hypocrisy is comical.

All of college football does it that way.

But somehow the NFL just can't seem to figure it out. Unreal

I'm fine with this. As long as the Dept of Defense puts a stop to the millions of dollars they spend on the NFL through advertising, sponsorships, and jet flyovers. If the NFL wants flyovers, then the DoD should send them a bill to cover the flight expenses.

When it comes to anthem stuff, yeah.

Otherwise, I like both.
