NFL backs down on anthem policy under standstill agreement w/ NFLPA

The NFL and NFL Players Association announced in a joint statement Thursday that league and team policies regarding conduct during the playing of the national anthem will not be issued or enforced for several weeks as part of a standstill agreement between the two sides.
NFL. com
It's difficult to botch something as much as the NFL has botched the anthem.

What happens when you make a bigger deal about a non-issue
The NFL is only doing this because their lawyers are telling them they have to.
They have to go through their union negotiations stuff otherwise things will get messy legally potentially and the NFL obviously doesn't want that.

True, but your lawyers should have told you that before you released your policy. The NFL has been a constant PR frick up for a few years now.
They're blessed to have been such a ratings king for so long. It's given them a large margin for error, but they're using up much of it

How the frick is this still a story?
Is Laundry Service the NFL's PR firm? My goodness

Why is this so fricking hard to solve on the NFL’s part. This shite has been a story for way to long and there is a very simple solution to the “problem”.
You don’t need the teams on the field to play the anthem. Play it right before the teams take the field. Problem solved. Hell, even LSU does it this way

All of college football does it that way.
But somehow the NFL just can't seem to figure it out. Unreal

True, but then the protesters would protest this.
If they'd just left it alone it would have died a long time ago.
People don't keep protesting (en masse at least) something that has no chance of being resolved.
And even if they did, the public would just eventually ignore it.

I said in the Dolphins thread that the NFL brass and the players are like watching a parent argue with a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Let the kid go and he'll get over it and move on. Acknowledge the kid and try to get him to stop and it will be quite the scene.

Trump has already said players staying in the locker room is disrespecting the flag and troops.

What's your fee from coming up with this wonderful idea?
just don't play the anthem before the game. have the teams run on the field and go straight to the coin flip. unless it's the FA cup or something the EPL teams don't play God Save the Queen.

This story is so amazing because the NBA has a pretty strict policy about standing up during the anthem, but you don’t hear anything about their policy. The NFL has handled this so poorly.

Television networks should’ve been ordered from Day 1 to not show anyone on camera that is on the sidelines. Only show the performer(s) and the flag
85% of the ones doing this are only doing it for the attention so when their attention gets taken away there’s no reason to continue doing it. The ones that genuinely care would continue doing it even when no one is watching

Yep. LSU lets the fans disrespect the anthem instead of the players.
