re: New ULL baseball coach?

I’m not factoring in the past although it has relevance. I think moving forward this is the future of college baseball given where all programs stand today
Nobody takes a job based on the past, only with what they think they can do in the future. Past can be used for context but it’s not pragmatic to do so

That’s not true. Successful programs have tradition for a reason.

Deggs may want to take it before he cools off too much. Won regular-season titles the last two years but went 1-2 and 0-2 in the conference tournament, missing the ncaa tourney twice since the regional title in Lubbock.

Not reading all this but FWIW sorry about coach TR

I think UL-L is fricked.
They caught lightning in a bottle with Robicheaux and did well but the sport of College Baseball has left them well behind. Good luck finding another coach willing to work for way less than he's worth.
I absolutely agree that their facilities are wonderful (among the the best in the G5) but they just don't have the money to keep up with even the worst P5.
Hell, even the biggest midget, the AAC, out-earns them 5-1.
Sorry to be a dick but I don't see how they can make up for that money gap.

What about Jeff Willis at LSUE? Guy has won a lot and can recruit.

Have you seen Rice’s fan support? It’s zero. Same yuppie effect as Tulane in lack of students and alumni care for baseball....times 10.
Poster never said we’re a Top 25 team. He said the job, where when you combine the success that has been had in some years, with fan support and facilities, puts it at least Top 35, and in the running at least for Top 25.
But you’re a d-bag who posts anything anti-Lafayette and anti-ULL any chance you get.

And guess what, if Tulane/Rice and ULL are going after the same coach, he’s probably going to take the Tulane/Rice job.

No probably about it and it's true in every sport.
I don't know why this guy has to drag other programs
into his swill.

Tulane was turned down by Mark Hudspeth

Stick to talking about working construction in North BR

I’m not sure if that’s accurate, but different times. Tulane was in a very bad version of CUSA at the time. Tulane had a different AD and president then. Tulane is now in a much better conference than they were in and what ULL is currently in.

Jake Gautreau asst. at Mississippi State wouldn't be a bad phone call.

When he was a sitting coach at ULL and only after they matched the money. Not on the open market.
Back to the baseball program, by some measures ULL is a top 35 baseball program. By those measures, better than several SEC schools.
But in terms of other measures (resources, conference) they aren't.

Because of the conference? No, but being in the AAC makes it a better job. More money, better players etc.
Coaches that have won in the AAC have gotten some great jobs out of it very quickly.
If you don’t understand that....
ETA:
Tulane doesn’t get Willie Fritz and Ron Hunter if they’re in CUSA, sorry.

He would be a great hire. I don't know how realistic he is though. He's pretty much the hottest name among assistants

Understood, but how many P5 head coaches are open right now? Or in the near future? UL could be a very nice stepping stone for him, moving on after 3-5 really great years.
If this would be Maggard's first choice, I could totally see him being succesful in getting him.
