re: Nelly Korda in the SEC

In 2023, Lexi Thompson made 6 out of 14 cuts on the LPGA Tour.

She also played in the Shriner’s Children’s Open that year for whatever reason.

She beat Ben Griffin, Si Woo Kim, Andrew Putnam, Peter Malnati, and 30 other Tour players.

Obviously the top of the SEC is really really good. Koivun just won on Tour. Tommy Morrison won a KFT event last week. Luke Potter finished T4 in that KFT event. I do think top 15-25 is generous, but it depends on the week.

Fwiw, the Chevron Championship played at 6900 yards and Nelly finished the tourney at -18 and won by 5.

Well it's more than four and you know that. And the PGA Tour would give Korda and numerous other a chance in plenty of tournaments if they wanted to. They don't because they wouldn't make cuts.

Throw Korda in a crappy PGA Tour event this week and she would get eat up. 7300 par 70 with five 500+ par 4's, 250 yard par 3, 600+ yard par 5's. She ain't making the cut.

You're right, Annika actually had a better shot at making a cut than Nelly does. She led the tour in driving distance in 2003, only 7 yards shorter than what Nelly averages now (270 v 277) and Nelly would have to play on a course about 400 yards longer than what Annika did in 03.

Agreed. But it's tigerdroppings and the thread shifted. I tend to agree closer to where you think she would finish in the SEC, just not where you think in the PGA.

So you think she would be All Sec and average around 70 for a season scoring average?

And I’d think the opposite is true because the men would be terrified of losing to a woman. But like you, I’ve got no clue.


It’s certainly course dependent. This week wouldn’t be a great fit for her. But a place like Sony, Hilton Head, Travelers, Whydam etc. she’d have a much better shot. Quail or Honda, no shot.

I think she’d probably be around 71-72ish. Probably wouldn’t start for the best SEC Teams. I do think she could easily start for Kentucky or Mizzou.

I think if Nelly played on a PGA Tour full season, she’d probably make a few cuts, but be one of, if not the worst full time player on the Tour. As you know, you can beat someone on any given week, but lose to them the majority of the time.

They let freaking Lexi Thompson play in the Shriners to get eyeballs on the tournament and she hadn't won a major in like ten years and wasn't nearly as popular as Nelly. You think some shite PGA Tour event wouldn't kick Bill Butts out to let the most popular women's golfer in the world to play? Give me a break.

She could 100% beat Tommy Morrison over a small subset, including a 54 hole stroke play event. And he just won a KFT event. She has no chance of beating him over a season long race.
