Seems like a huge lead for Iowa. They have completed the first 2 rounds and there are 3 left (not including consolation matches). I know that both Iowa and PSU advanced 8 guys each..

Iowa should win it but with placement points and the way PSU scores bonus points, 5 points is nothing.

Eierman at 141 for Iowa is a fun guy to watch. Dude can get legs in from the craziest positions. I wouldn't be surprised if he either cruises to the title or gets beat by somebody with a gameplan that stifles his style.

Spencer Lee actually looked a little human with the huge 125er he wrestled in the 2nd round yesterday.

PSU's got the surprise with Berge still in the champ bracket at 157 and if Starocci keeps wrestling the way he has, he could be on the big stage tomorrow night and give them a shitload of points.

What do college wrestlers eat other than the hopes and dreams of their opponent?

I’m a former LA HS State wrestling champion at 185 lbs. 28-3 record my Senior year and won 5 tournaments. Had several scholarship offers to wrestle at smaller mid-western schools but decided I wanted to attend LSU and act like Cheech & Chong :pimp;

What Cael Sanderson is doing at Penn State is unbelievable. When it’s all said and done, he will be the greatest college wrestling coach of all time. IMO, he’s already the greatest college wrestler.

Night session, round 5, is about to begin. Hard to find updates from earlier today. But the current point totals of the top 6 are below.

Iowa 73.5
PSU 57.5
OK ST 51
NC ST 46
MIZZ 40
MICH 35

Have to be an epic letdown for Iowa not to win. They are far ahead and have the most guys left.

It will be a HUGE upset if they lose. Penn State is the Alabama of wrestling. They’ve won 8 of the last 9 National Championships ... 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, (2020 not held )

PSU next run starts next year. Last year would have been close between Iowa and PSU, but this is Iowa’s year..

I’m fairly new to wrestling as my kids started last year. I started watching the ACC and Big 10 coverage this year. I have heard that the Big 10 schools have fully allocated their scholarships. What is the scholarship allocation difference between the Big 10 and the rest of the NCAA.

Lee was dominant in this last win. Beat the guy 12-0 and did this awesome tilt maneuver. Other side in double victory. He looks like a lock..

I have zero clue, I’m sure your question can be answered with some research on each school budget and how they allow care $$ for scholarship. It boils down to which sports each school chooses to invest their money.

Interesting fact to ponder, in 12 seasons of SEC wrestling, LSU won 5 team titles. That's more than any other SEC team. Sadly the LSU wrestling program was a casualty due to title IX

LSU still had wrestling as a club sport. I am not sure if that is still a thing. But I had a friend on it around 2000. It was all self funded and no scholarships. It would be fun for us to have, especially with how big wrestling is in south LA.

Tonight has been pretty good. Huge upset just now with the guy from Rider with a pin out of nowhere on the number one seed. The opposing coach, from Northwestern, was losing his shite. But it was clean..

Iowa is better than Penn State right now and last year... going forward who knows. It would be a huge upset and letdown if Iowa didn't win this year.

It is a shame that no college in La competes in wrestling on the national level. Had a relative that was in it and he had offers from smaller schools out of state, but wanted to go to La Tech. That being said, quite a few kids from last years HS grad class is competing in the college ranks this year. I can't think of the south la 170? pound class winner, Trent?, but last I heard he was undefeated.

If there's one rule in all of sports I'd most want to see changed, it's increased penalties for stalling late in matches.

Any stall call with less than 1 minute left in regulation or overtime should be a point (or 2 if he's had multiple calls before), no matter whether the wrestler has had a warning before or not and refs should not be so reticent to call it.

My kid has a meet in about an hour. It’s only his second meet he’s ever been in. He likes it so far and he seems to want to keep going. I’m just battling discouragement with him right now and he doesn’t understand that right now it’s about learning and not about winning.
