People around the world are searching for ways to help make a difference as the coronavirus outbreak continues to cause sickness and death, and change the way humans go about everyday life.
Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend Marissa Mowry, who plays soccer at Anderson University, tried to do what they could to help coronavirus victims, but NCAA rules prohibited them from going through with their plan.
Lawrence and Mowry started a GoFundMe fund-raising page for coronavirus victims Monday afternoon, but it was shut down the same day after raising $2,670. Mowry said through a video on her Instagram account that they were forced to deactivate the page. A Clemson official confirmed that Lawrence and Mowry were not allowed to have the GoFundMe account active due to NCAA rules that prohibit using name, image and likeness for crowd funding.

“Unfortunately Trevor cannot be a part of this anymore due to compliance and some rules, so he can’t help out anymore,” Mowry said in a video on her Instagram page. “And also we have to take down the GoFundMe page.”
The $2,670 that was raised will go to Meals on Wheels America and No Kid Hungry, Lawrence said in a video on Mowry’s Instagram page.
The State reached out Tuesday to the NCAA seeking comment and clarity on the rules Tuesday afternoon.
“Despite all of the craziness and drama with that we were able to raise a little over $2,500. So all of that’s going to go to Meals on Wheels and No Kid Hungry, which is super awesome,” Lawrence said in the video. “Thank you guys, all of y’all that donated. It’s really much appreciated. It’s going to help some kids and some elderly [people] somewhere, so it’s going to be very helpful. So we really appreciate y’all. Sorry for all of the drama and all of the confusion but we got it worked out.”

Paragon of virtue, good, and selflessness

It makes no sense.
NCAA profits off of Trevor Lawrence.
Trevor Lawrence uses his status for a good cause and the NCAA deems it unacceptable.

NCAA regulations clearly state that to determine what you should do to comply, think of what's morally right, then do the opposite.

NCAA shut it down because they wont profit from it

Why didn't Trevor just post a Redcross link or something similar? Doesn't GoFundMe take a percentage?

Actually agree with the NCAA on this.
GoFundme's have no fricking oversight and are by and large just personal scams.
He could pocket all the money and nobody would be the wiser.

This is one of those things where I actually hope social media does some good. Hopefully there’s enough social media outrage to make an exception and let Lawrence continue to have this.
I remember when Fournette signed his jersey and sold it and gave those proceeds to SC flood victims a few years back after our game vs LSU. The NCAA actually tried to stop it before they were pressured into not being morons.

I always say I couldn't hate the NCAA more. Then they go and find ways to make me hate them even more.

I seriously doubt that would happen with him in this case.

The NCAA is literally cancer. What a bunch of soul sucking figs.
Trevor Lawrence always seemed like a genuine guy, and that makes this even worse. Dude is legit just trying to help in the simplest way he can: use his reach as a famous athlete to raise money for people who need it.
How can you deny that and sit here with a straight face and tell the public it's the right thing to do? frick the NCAA.

NCAA couldn't even be bothered to release the field for the tournament to honor the teams that would have made it, but they sure have time to pursue this.
What an awful organization.

quote:Good point. He can still have the intended effect of getting donations by making a few social media posts with links for donating to specific charities.
