If you can’t maintain a 1.8 GPA, that is the players fault and no one else’s.

I think a lot of people underestimate how behind academically many of the athletes that come to LSU are. Some of them can barely read and write. They get passed along so they can play football in high school and are utterly unprepared for college. It's sad.

Coupled with some Universities are just athletic mills and don't rank in the Top 100 academic schools.
All of the top athletic schools are simply mills for the pro leagues.

This isn’t the College Football of the past.

You are all clearly correct.

These athletes go to college for the degrees and the athletics just happens to be a bonus.

Did you read the part I quoted? NCAA does not make the requirements of when someone can turn pro.

I already commented on that in a previous post.

To reiterate, my point is that these athletes aren’t there for school, don’t care about school, and the academic component serves no purpose for them.

We need to stop viewing them as “student athletes”.

Hell, with the current NIL system, they are more “minor league professional” than most current players in the minor leagues.

Another poster stated that the NCAA created the rule and it should be followed.

Ok, but what is the purpose of the rule? What does it actually do and who does it serve?

We need to stop kidding ourselves.

Let’s just get the creation of an official minor league over with.

To not stay eligible, you either need to absolutely make a monumental effort not to even try, or you simply can't read.

Your problem is viewing all athletes as if they were football or basketball players. They are in the minority of college athletes. Sure 98 of them is a lot, but still is the minority of athletes on campus.

The ncaa didn't make that rule either. Those were state laws, put in place by legislators. Moarkilometers thinks Scruffy is way out of his element on this entire topic.

If I had a 1.8 GPA in college, they would’ve kicked me out of school. And that’s LSU. But I’m not an athlete.

Those rankings are based on dubious criteria like graduation rates of multiple types, endowments and reputation as determined subjectively by deans of other schools.

You couldn’t be more wrong. The pro leagues determine who is eligible for their drafts, not the NCAA. Hence, the different requirements. For Major League Baseball organizations, you are eligible for the draft right out of high school. But if you don’t sign then, you have to wait until 3 years after you’ve graduated to be eligible to be drafted and signed.
