The lottery makes it harder for bad teams to get better. Without a guaranteed top pick the year your bad team have had to be bad for years at a time.

now there is a tanking problem and the NBA’s solution it to make it even harder for bad teams to get better.

It should be, they get worse odds to be #1, and #2, but they get essentially locked into #3, #4, and #5 since they still need good talent And it creates an incentive to lose if you’re like the Pelicans and don’t have your pick

IIRC, part of the changes is that they aren’t just drawing for slots 1-4 anymore but all slots from 1-16.

It still doesn’t address the root cause of teams sucking. Yeah it might incentivize teams to not be the worst in the league, but you are much better off getting 3 lottery balls than being the Suns fed to the OKC wolves. You’ll just see lower tier playoff teams try fall out.

The 8 seed Orlando is up 3-1 on a 60-win Detroit team.
Even the 8/1 and 7/2 first-round series are winnable by the underdog.

Wonder why other leagues don’t have this problem

This is a bad take because least talent and worst record were not aligning

So now this rule is attempting to make them align

thus proving my take correct

How about this. The teams that do not make the playoffs. Go into a losers playoff. They play for draft seeding. Winner gets #1 so on and so forth. That would stop tanking.

So providing the best chance at getting one to the worst teams is the best way to elevate those teams.
