Hes a pretty big draw right now. He was arguably the most famous basketball player in the world to people between the ages of 15 and 21 as a high schooler. He was easily the most recognizable college player in over a decade. Hes a big deal

Wasted opportunity. Preseason NFL games that start a week later will get more eyeballs.

ETA: the timing of this news was well calculated. Imagine sports radio shows today had they released this news on Thursday

Way too late to start
Take top 16 and play it off starting July 4
Now you have college underclassmen in limbo with draft and you can’t start the next season in a reasonable fashion

then again it isn’t the playoffs without Dame Lilliard.

20 games or so in the NBA shouldn’t make you that big a star right away

He was one before the NBA is the point. And getting him into the postseason, against the leagues flagship player over the last 20 years on the leagues flagship franchise, would be immense for him and the league who clearly views him as the next flagship player

If he stays healthy I think he likely will be.

Which is why the league really wants him in now to play against the freaking Lakers with LeBron freaking James. That is such an incredible opportunity for the league to shape Zion as the heir apparent. It's not the single deciding factor to bring the league back. But it's definitely something they are going to do when they make the decision to come back

It would be a great series too. The Pels actually played the lakers tough in their games this season, even before they started clicking.

Great is relative. The games would likely be competitive but in a 7 game series it would be Boom’s Gentleman’s Sweep at best most likely.

Would be a lot of fun though.

Seems odd. Why wait two months?

So they can only be in the hub cities for a month max and then return to home arenas with fans in attendance.

Shoot, if they don’t start until July 31, they could probably just ditch the hub cities altogether.

Lakers could get calls to go their way and still not win. Lebron is just not good enough to win a title without a super team at this point of his career. Heck for his whole career he hasn’t really been able to win a title w out a super team.

of course not.

Super team has always been a big 3. lebron has never won a title without 2 other stars.
